Well:

I switched out the new coils (2.2 ohm) and put the old Dyna (5.0 ohm) coils on for a voltage check.

With the 5.o Ohm coils I have almost 12 volts headed to the crank trigger, 11 volts going there now with the old coils. only 6-9 volts were going to the trigger with the new coils.

I am starting to think there is a short in one of the two new coils, which is causing a voltage drop.

The book says I should have 10K reading in ohms in the secondary (where the spark plug wires hook in), they read 13,500 that seems wierd and I probably could explain it if I was an electrical guy.

I replaced the old style fuse with a new style 20 amp fuse(thanks for the advice!!), gained about .5 volts, at the trigger wire.

The battery is reading at just 12 volts should be 12.6, so it is resting with the charger hooked up. Saturday morning when the green light comes on on the battery tender, I will re-measure. The poditive battery cable is kinda nasty, but reads 12 volts at the fuse, perhaps there is some resistance there.

I have not called Dyna yet, as I work about twelve hours a day during the week, getting time 8-5 is impossible. I am not willing to say thier customer service is not top notch "yet" but I would point out that I sent an e-mail almost aweek ago with no reply at this point.

I think I now have the whole wiring scheme memorized, and am learning a little about electrics...this however does not make me any less pissed off that a 475 dollar item is not working.

Sooooon I will put the old points back in so I can at least ride this thing.

Hey Ted, couple of suggestions that may or may not be helpful. Hook a jumper of any kind directly from the battery negative to the black ground wire of the dyna and recheck voltage to determine if you have a grounding problem. Remove the coils from the bike and check the resistance through the primary connections (lower resistance), the secondary connections (higher resistance) and from both of those to the mounting bar. You should have readings that are similar to what the book says between the primaries and secondaries and no continuity to the mounting bar. You said that you grounded the coils, what did you mean? If you meant that the mounting bars are connected to the frame, should be good. Good luck. I will keep watching this thread, anticipating your success. Troy341

Like Leon said before the old girl is just playing hard to get. You know, testing your paitience. I know it gets really frustrating when you work as much as you do, and decide to lay down some of that hard earned for the most expensive ignition. Sounds like Dynatech is going to do you right. I know that you will remember the struggle later and realize it was all worth it.

 Yaaaaaayyyyyy!!

Steve at the shop has the whole thing under control, and now he wil be rebuilding the forks, and the front brake calipers while waiting for Dynatek to do the brain surgery.

What does this mean?

Well about next week the bike is all done except for headlight, and taillight.

YAAAAYYYYY!!
