Are you going to powerder coat the frame when you're done? If so get some paint protecting film or something similar when installing the engine to minimize scrapes/scuffs.

10-4 on the powder coat...its the only way to go...and usually I use pipe insulator material to protect it during engine install

i powdercoated my frame on the 810, but i think i will go paint next time. Had many ideas later that would require welding on the frame.

powder is tough but it also makes it hard to find cracks or breaks in the frame so i'll stick with paint besides it is easy to cover up scratches or chips with paint

All valid points for sure....but as this is for Penelope...and she's not the worlds biggest hot rodder I think the frame will be safe...And for sure it ALWAYS happens that you want to change/add somthing after its been coated but I will have to live with it...or just build another one :)

Well, got a few things accomplished today...got the stem back from machining...so I could mount the front end....also made the swingarm bushings for the conversion so the swingarm got mocked up as well.
now...just need to set the ride hight and build the upper and lower shock mounts.

I have decided to make a kit of sorts that would allow a guy to update a Z1.
it will include
1/swing arm bushings
2/steering stem with custom top triple clamp that allows original guages to be bolted up
3/upper and lower shock mount
4/outboard bearing support(integral clutch actuator)
5/and a brace kit
it will be available raw aluminum or anodized.

I am going to make a dozen of them to start and see what happens.
you will be able to see the pieces on this bike as we buid it.
now you will need some basic fab skills but nothing major.
I may also offer the work done to your frame...still thinking about that one...liability and all...we will see.
anyway let me know what you guy's think
cheers
