Nice work Mark. Paint is probably the hardest DIY skill to pick up. Really like your design with a nod to the Z1 lines, and actually don't mind the pink that much although candy red is a personal fav.Look forawrd to seeing the next version.

Thanks Jack. i thought the pink looked good too. but i just wouldnt be able to ride it, i could only laugh at it. lol.

testarossa wrote: I think that trying candy for your first "real" paint job is jumping in on the deep end. Seems to me that you need to screw up a certain amount before you get a good paint job.

i seem to have a habit of jumping in with both feet the very first time.
Hear is my first big woodworking project. i had done a little bit of hand tool type stuff before hand. but this was def booth feet in.i made every molding on it at home too.
I'll post a pic of my first kitchen latter.

Nothing to laugh at there especially for your first real paint job. Like said you go all the way to the deep end. That's looking pretty good to me. You should be able to wet sand it and keep going with more candy red. The HOK candy considerate is what I use and it looks almost black in the cup when I'm spraying it.

well i couldnt get the candy just right so i used the dupicolor and re-cleared over top. i was too lasy to strip all of the parts at this time so i only wanted to redo the tank and 1 sidecover, since the other duplicolor, cleared parts are in great shape.
its very expensive to do trial and error. it costs $60 for a quart of clear alone. this will keep me riding for a few years i supose.i dont know how long the duplicolor will last. the clear has the uv blockers that the duplicolor lacks, so it may hold out well?
i still have to find the ambition to tare the bike down and repaint the frame some time. i will likely go black next time. that would allow me to change the body color at will. i may go with a modern metalic Kawi green body next time ?
1 thing i am not happy with is the thickness of the bottom stripe. i should have made it thinner . it would have looked better if it was thinner on the tail.but being a dumb ass i did the tank before the tail.

Lookin good buddy! Mark, in a regular basecoat/clearcoat system, the clearcoat provides all the UV protection. The base has none. You should be just fine as long as your clear and the duplicolor get along.

BTW I saw a Kawasaki Versys over spring break that was painted in a candy metallic green. That was a really cool color. It's been stuck in my head ever since I saw it.
