Well i tried solved my clearance issue.
after installing the new pipe, the next road block was the engine guards. so i took it to my friends shop and chopped them up. he cut the lower section of the guard off then re welded it on in a manner that allowed the cases to all most touch , but the guard would hit first.
so i went to the track last week and found a lot more lean angle (gained 1.5"), but still managed to hit the guards. i went around a turn that has radius that just keeps getting tighter as it goes. as i got into the turn i realized i was going too fast, and needed to lean the bike harder, or i would run out of track on the outside. i pulled on the bars and drove my inside foot down and the guards hit hard. this caused the bike to be upset , and i had to stand the bike up and bail. i did some off roading ,through the field, and back onto the track. WOW! what a rush. :woohoo: Just glad i didn't go down.
So i just have to learn to get that knee down and gauge were i am at at lean, so i dont hit the guards.

i have 1 more track day left, but i think i will be riding the cbr and working on body position. there are guys running slower and dragging there knees? i guess they really dont need to be.
But i am having a ball learning, and so far so good.B)

hey mark when i look at the bikes that the japanese guys build for track bikes, with the angle cut alternator and points covers.it makes me wonder if you can get anything to cover the covers and not get in the way.
even the ones with sliders look like the covers would touch down before the sliders.

plus it looks like (if you will notice the front motor mount)that they raise the engines for even more clearance.

Yea that would be sweet. they have really raised that motor.but then i would just lean it more until i scrape again lol.
i have as much clearance as can be had for my bike. i have the guards tucked under the covers. if i keep grinding the guards, much more, the covers will be grinding soon. :(
i suppose i just need to accept it for what it is and learn how to judge where i am at lean, by dragging my knee.
i have to keep reminding myself that this is my prized street ride, and ride the cbr6 more.No clearance issues there.
I think i will be buying my friends out on the cbr. i share it with 2 others. then they will buy there own and we can all go hard.

i guess u pull the motor to check the shimms. lol
no biggy for a race bike but it would suck for a streeter.
i wonder why they did go the usual route on the stator?? u would think they may be loosing some clearance ?

I hear u there Dave. i just had to though. u know how it is. u go to all the trouble to build something and u just have to see how it works. i am not into trailer queens.
i have learned that for street riding , u dont rely need to worry about the frame gussets so much. Hell u can ride an old Harley on the street. u just cant, and SHOULD NOT ride hard enough on the street to need a lot, just the basic gussets will be fine.
But it is nice to have on the track. i may put some more gussets on the rails under the tank. u can feel the old girl dancing around under u when u push her hard.having a modern less flexy front and rear, puts a lot more load on the frame. the cbr6 which is ultra stable.

Hey Mark, in shannonville are you in some race school or what? Do you need to have all your bolts safety wired and everything, or can you just go around the track on your regular street bike? Very cool!
