Wow Mark you did a poseidon on the KZ! Were you able to get a knee down before the crash bar touched? I doubt it but I must know. Sounds like all the changes really helped your handling woes. Looks like some of that dino coolant under your bike.

pics...pics....glad everyones ok....crash bars area almost worth their wheight in gold in some cases...my buddies R-90S got to where it was just part of conering to see when the sparks fly....keeps guy from trying to stick a wheel up the inside too...when those sparks start flying no one tailgates you through the twisties....
they also dont really bother me much after a while of having em on...such pretty motors it is hard to want em on the street...but they can be the big factor in a small tip over....

Tri.
I hear u on the look of the crash bars. i have never liked the look of them myself. but since i was going to the track, i thought it would be a good idea. ive had them in a box for years and never used them for that very reason. Now i'm glad i did, or my pipe would be trash.
The thing about the bars is, if u hit them hard , they will cause a crash. the bike will try to pivot off the wheels onto the bars like a teeter totter. then u are in trouble. they take away the room for error. if u are close to the bars and need a bit more , its not there.
the case would be same without them though, and it would be my stator and points covers that would get trashed.
i was thinking that the ideal situation would be to raise the pipe and crash bars a bit, then have a feeler gauge (like the pegs under the foot pegs) set at just the right height to let u know where your at before u hit the pipe and bars. i suppose that’s where the knee dragging comes in. it will just take time to learn, i just hate the error part of that learning curve. lol
I'll have to get that figured out on the cbr6.
Ben
I wasn’t able to use the Sprocket support plate. The fit is not right , but I may be able to get it moded to fit I will pm u on that, just so u know for the future .
I will post pics when I get some.

Mark, this is truly cool (not the wrecked KZ) but for the fact that you have the chance to be on a race track with her...

You have an topographic view of the track, some info, length, twisties, lap times etc....

We ride at Shannonville mostly .it is about an hour from my house. Mosport is the same distance in the opposite direction.

www.shannonville.com/body.php?section=track&page=maps

at Shanny, we ride the Fabi, Nelson circuit, and long tracks. the long is simply the other 2 joined together.
i was on the Nelson, thurs.
if u look at Turn 1,the bottom left corner of the Nelson, after, the long straight that goes horizontal along the bottom. i hit hard on turn 1,2, and 5. they are the fastest corners. i hit others but not like these. they were heart pounders .:woohoo: u kind of say , holey shit that was close, then after u collect yourself, u say wow, that was fun.:woohoo:
U can wind her out in 5th on the bottom straight, then go hard on the brakes into turn 1.
I was stuck behind a Kawi 636 for a while, he was slow on the turns and I would be right up his tail. Then when we hit that straight, I could not pass him. We were neck and neck with the same HP. Then he braked early I almost ran into him, I locked up the rear and fished around a bit. More :woohoo:
its Interesting that it takes 1200 cc's in a 30 year old bike to keep up to 600cc new bike. They have a weight advantage too, of course.
He finally let me pass. This is supposed to be a learning thing, so there is no passing aloud in the corners, only on exits and straights. When I ride in the experienced class, u can pass any ware, but it is them passing me, on 1000cc + rockets.
They rent the track every 2 weeks, so I will get out quit a bit. What a rush
Keep it twisted

Damn Mark that sucks about your bike, but its a GOOD thing you thought to put those crash bars on before your track time. How does your bike handle now compared to before? For some reason I was thinking you changed the top shock mount location..... Keep it twisted alright, albeit rubber side down!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

What about the bearing support plate didn't fit right on your bike Mark? Mine didn't fit either, but my frame is modified causing some interference. I'll HAVE to run the support plate, so minor mods to mine are necessary.

Adam, go back a page and look at the post with thie pic of my scaped header. i described it there.
yes i did move the shock monts and raised the front, also added braces. she's pretty good now, no weave like i had before. i guess that must have been from the cupping ware pattern on the old, front tire. it still wiggles a bit, in the middle of the bike, but three is only so much u can do.
Not sure at this point, weather i would add any more braceing or not. more track time may answer that?
there are some gussets i may add. i just dont want to be adding a bunch of extra weight for no reason.

I wouldn't think you would add more than a couple pounds with more bracing, but like you said, no reason to start throwing steel in her just for the sake of it.

So is she finished? Is this the end of modifying the old girl?
