Damn Leon. How did I miss the blog for so long? That's really cool man. Honestly I don't know where you find the time to do the blog, KZR, I even read some of your posts on a home machinist's forum recently. That's after working a real job and actually making all the stuff you post about. Do you ever sleep?

testa,

i need to get a sense of accomplishment each day.

i used to be a mechanic and i would take broken equipment and fix them and send back them to work.
well i quit doing that and started selling other guys the parts to fix the equipment.
easier work but,not as much of a sense of accomplishment there.

so i seek it out any way i can.

i try to make myself stop at 9 o'clock each night, unless i really have to get something done.

it keeps me outta the bar,and outta trouble :) .

i also have a very understanding wife who has hobbies of her own, barrel racing.

thanks for the kind words.

Thats right boys, what we have is what we have.. but at least its ours right!!!

Love the Blue Tooth, I saw it was on sale at tunerstudio.. I might have to check that out after you test it out. :)

Hopefully soon I can start adding some useful testing on the new motor with the EFI setup.

Leon... love the blog man!!!

2 days guys, 2 days............i've been trying to make sense of what i need & im afraid im going to have to ask questions! I apologise in advance
So, my next project is running away with my head. Base bike is a Z/KZ 650 B1 which i'll probably be fitting a 750 (ZR) Zephyr air cooled engine to which will be bored out to 810cc. I had thought about some 29mm smoothbores or some flatsides but then this thread popped into my head. I think by the time i would be finished buying, rebuilding (& cleaning) & rejetting the carbs (prob about £600 GBP) i may as well take a go at TBI & micro/mega squirt!

1/ So, looking into the bodies themselves are something like 2007 ZX6R Bodies suitable with regards to injector flow & spacing? Do you use the holders for the appropriate donor bikes bodies too? (how do you know what flow & impedence of injectors you need?????)
2/ Which kit is best to go for? Mega or Micro? & which one? Version 3?
3/ Do i need a TPS on the bodies? (im thinkig deffo yes)
4/ Do i need a wideband o2 sensor? (thinking yes again!)
5/ Do i need to buy a fuel pressure regulator? (thinking yes again!)
6/ What airbox did you guys use? Std/Pods or custom?

HAVE I MISSED ANYTHING?? I keep reading about a toothed wheel for example!!???

Sorry for the questions fellas, i want to understand this but i've just started research so im struggling a bit. I've looked into pretty much every link provided in this thread as well.

Good work fellas!!

Bear in mind mine is not running efi right now. Im saving it for a winter project while I enjoy running my bike carb for now. This is the info I have collected.

1/ So, looking into the bodies themselves are something like 2007 ZX6R Bodies suitable with regards to injector flow & spacing? Do you use the holders for the appropriate donor bikes bodies too? (how do you know what flow & impedence of injectors you need?????)

GPZ1100 throttle bodies are what I am using and they are a direct fit for a kz1000. Bootstable might be able to help you with the specs on the zx6r bodies.
Microsquirt can only drive 4 high-impedance injectors. I plan on using 93 mustang 19 lb to start off.

2/ Which usit is best to go for? Mega or Micro? & which one? Version 3?

I am going microquirt version 3, it will do everyting I need and is cheaper. Mega has more capability and flexability but is much larger.

3/ Do i need a TPS on the bodies? (im thinkig deffo yes) Yes

4/ Do i need a wideband o2 sensor? (thinking yes again!) No, but will help a lot tuning

5/ Do i need to buy a fuel pressure regulator? (thinking yes again!) Yes

6/ What airbox did you guys use? Std/Pods or custom? I plan on using a turbo air plenum from a gpz750 turbo

WOW Quick reply!!! Thanks man, i'll learn but its gonna take time to understand!

Have i missed anything out that you noticed?

The 07 ZX6R Bodies are 38mm but they run 2 sets of injectors (thats some of my concern, that the set in the bodies might not flow enough), 1 set in the bodies & the other in the airbox, are bike injectors usually low impedence then?, i dont understand the injector ratings, 19LB, what dooes that mean?

I just need to get the body spacing right, i would like to use these throttle bodies as i have an 07 ZX6R race bike & i can take measurements easily before buying anything & finding it doesn't fit/work

I don't think that the 07 TBs will fit your zed and you can only change the centre spacing of the new throttle bodies as the throttle bodies are made as 2 pairs and not 4 individual TBs like the older set ups were.
Use z1000J carb rubbers from z1 enterprises. You will have to slot the mounting holes a bit with a round file to get the mounting bolts to fit.
The gpz11 TBs will fit the 650 with no modification, the 38mm tbs are a bit big for a 810. They should work but you will find that you will be riding the bike most of the time with the throttle just cracked.
Bike will run fine with Pods as FI is not dependent on a low pressure area over the jets (Venturi effect)to cause the fuel to flow into the intake.
You will also have to arrange for a return to tank from your pressure reg, another problem to look out for is how many amps the fuel pump uses as the 650 does not have much in the way of spare electrical power.
