Megasquirt / Microsquirt a KZ was created by jydog
I plan on jumping on the EFI bandwagon. There is not a whole buch of info on Microsquirting a kz out there. I know a few on this board have done it and I would like to learn from there experience. I have some experience with mustangs and megasquirt but it is limited. I plan on using this setup on my 81 kz1000 that will have a 84 GPZ1100 in it. My goal is to build a street bike that is easy to start and cruise around on and will have as much torque as possible.

Megasquirt II 3.57 board to start with and maybe changing to microsquirt when it is avaliable again.

84 gpz1100 throttle bodies with newer injectors ( at least 310cc high-impedance injectors ) How do you mount other injectors.

Bosch 0 227 100 211 ignition module for cop

COP ( coil on plug ) not sure what kind yet?

Adjustable fuel pressure reg (not sure what kind yet) suggestions needed

Walbro GSL393 fuel pump

GM 3 Bar MAP Sensor ( going turbo later )

programed to run :
alpha n low rpm
speed density higher rpm

The hard part looks like the ignition pickup. From what I read the ideal setup is using a hall sensor with a 12-1 or 36-1 or higher missing tooth trigger wheel. Has anyone done this yet?

Check out Dave Sloan's MegaSquirted KZ650 and others there.

We have a very limited quantity of V2.0 MicroSquirts. The latest estimate for the release date for the V3.0 revision is September 2011. The next MicroSquirt will feature the following changes:

DIYAUTOTUNE

That's where I buy all my MegaSquirt stuff

Every time I do a search on this. Your name, evad and Dave Sloans keep coming up. Thanks for getting me into this mess, now its all I can think about. DIYAutoTune is about 70 miles from me close to my work. I dropped by to pick up my mustang stuff. Now show me how to put a 36-1 Crank trigger and hall sensor on this kz. :-)

Here is a site I found that has some smaller 36-1 trigger wheels that may fit in the KZ ignition housing.

I haven't used them, I just bookmarked the site when I was researching this myself.

what does it take $$$$$$$$$$$$$ wise to put together a fi setup using a mega/micro squirt?

i know there are variables such as what t/bodies you can get a deal on.

but just ball park.

can it be done cheaper than good new carbs?

under $700.00??????????

just curious.

Well right now on DIYautotune, a microsquirt is listed at $99,900 so its pretty much the deal of the century.

If anyone is interested, I have an Electromotive Tec II ECU with coils. I can't verify that it still works, but it should. I can test it though if someone was interested.

Here's what it looks like, its basically a full standalone engine management system, fully adjustable, ton of inputs.

Depends :)

The cheap way:
MS1 kit - $140
Throttle bodies $35 for 750 Turbo (fits on 900/1000 also)
Wideband O2 and controller $100 (JAW)
External Fuel pump $35 used
Various sensors used $25
Various parts $100

Going all new parts with an assembled MS3 or MicroSquirt costs a bit more.

When looking for a toothed wheel, the number of teeth depend on the rpm of the wheel, if you're turning 11,500 rpm you don't want a 36 -1 wheel, but it might be ok (not sure it's needed though) for a 9000 rpm motor.

Medical problems permitting, I'm working on a injecting a ZX11, including coil on plug and sequential fuel and ignition with a MS2, using GSXR1000 throttle bodies. Next up is to assemble another 750 twin and inject it using Yamaha R6 throttle bodies (because they look like CV carbs).

With the ZX11 I'm using a 24 -1 wheel and stock pickup, in addition to a Hayabusa cam sensor mounted in the valve cover and triggering off a cam lobe.

I think Evad (Dave Sloan) used a modified sprocket as a toothed wheel.

Thats very cool Steve, you should throw up some pics and specs of your ZX11. I'm sure everyone is interested.

From reading the meagasquirt forums it looks possible to use the stock vr sensor and drive a 7 or 8 pin GM HEI module to drive the coils, does anyone know if this has been tried? you probably cant drive cop this way but it might be a way to control the stock ignition? I think you would need ms2 or greater. Good info being posted here by the way. Keep it coming. I figure I could either spend my time and money on learning to tune carbs or this.

Steel I would love to see what you have done to you bike. Sounds like you have a lot of experience in this area.

ZX11 is water cooled and not a KZ, so anything I post about it will be in the forum I linked above.

I think the MicroSquirt will control two coils directly, the MS2 (at least) will control multiple coils by using the JBPerf coil driver board and MS Extra code.

If I was an expert I'd have a MS bike running
