Hi Loudhvx.

Please can you assist me. The brown wire from the regulator, this wire powers the lights etc correct. I am copying your drawing for Johns kz1000.i have a 4 switch ignition. 1. Ignition. 2 battery.3 acc.4 starter.
What i need to know, does the brown wire get connected to the power wire from the ignition (coils).

I am stumped here....do you need to connect this wire, or can you leave it off. I have everything working, except this brown wire. Please could you draw me a basic diagram for this brown wire going from regulator to key ignition and lights, tail. headlight etc.

Thank you kindly.

The brown wire to the regulator is power TO the regulator. It is what the regulator uses to know what voltage the battery is at. Anytime the ignition switch is on, that wire to the regulator must have 12v on it. It should not be inline with any other switch except the main ignition switch.

Be aware, though, that the brown wire also feeds power to many other things on a KZ. It is the switched 12v wire. It has power whenever the ignition key switch is turned on. (Some KZ's may have more than one brown wire.)

In the simplified schematics, that brown wire is tied to the switched 12v line which feeds the entire bike, including the coils and lights and starter solenoid. So even though that wire is connected to many other things, it does not affect, nor is it affected by, those other things. It is simply getting its power from the same place those other things get their power.

And no, leaving it unconnected from the regulator would be really bad for the electrical system.

The 1100 schematic, above your post, shows how it is typically wired on most of the 1000/1100 bikes.

Do you have a 1982 Kz1000K2 diagram you can upload to the filebase? I don't have one. There is a 1981 K1 diagram, but I'm not sure if it's the same. Also, I'm not sure about the working of the self-canceling turn signal unit. If you are keeping that, I'll need more details on how it works. If you are eliminating it, and just using a manual turn signal switch, then it should be simple.

Kawasaki KZ900 points, with and without battery.
For fastestz1.

Batteryless version requires reg/rec sense line tied directly to reg/rec output, and also requires lights to be off when starting, so requires on/off switch for lights.
