Quick update. I finally got everything togethe rfor shaping the seat. Took time today to go get it done,the plan being to trim off some over-foamed areas and glue the offcuts on to where I need it.Got some glue,some edging for the seat base and bought an electric carving knife for trimming

Well, I got about 3 pieces trimmed and then the piece of shit electric garbage knife packed in.Everything grinding to a halt again!!!. Now I need to wait for the shop to reopen,take the knife back,get my money back,find a new (different brand) knife and find the time to get into it again!!!!!
Very frustrating.

Did it eat some of the foam?

No ,clean as a whistle. The foam is quite dense,so theres very little dust. I didnt need to force it though ,it seemed to cut,reasonably well.Better than the bread knife. I only managed 3 or 4 cuts and it just stopped dead. No overheating Not even a bad smell.

Still havent got a new knife yet so I spent some time on the side panels




I got the 2nd panel welded up,came out ok.As good as the first then I welded some M6 nuts into the old side panel mounts. Not the most beautiful welds but Im still learning.Happy enough with them and more than happy that I got it done. Progress!!! Something Ive been lacking for a while now. Next thing is to find a nice steel mesh to tack in behind it,then get some powdercoat on it. A bit cliche,I know but I always liked the look and I didnt want to go with the original plastic panels anyway ( Ive only got the LH side,of course)

I remember using a bread knife instead of using the electrical knife. For me it was easier, the electrical one always got stuck.. But then again, it was my mothers spare knife.

I've seen people use a metal heated wire for shaping carnival figures etc and then it goes through like butter. But then again, not worth the hassle in my opinion if it's just for a small piece.

And what a swingarm.. It looks fantastic!

cool to see the foam worked out. How do you think it will hold up? is it comfortable?

I got back to the seat today. Bought another electric knife and had at it

I did the best I could on the 2xcomp foam.I carved it away to the basic shape

Then went over it with the rotary sander and some 40 grit paper

More or lesley what I was going for. Then I glued some softer,shop bought foam (about 3cm) and strapped it all down



I had to glue it all down onto the seat pan,as the edges were curling up. Then I went at it again with the knife and the sander





and thats pretty much it. I think that I will still need to tidy it up a bit and maybe cover the whole thing again with a very thin layer (1cm) of foam so I dont have any imperfections showing through the vinyl cover. In all It was a pig to do as I didnt know what I was doing.Pretty much learned it from a lot of youtubeing.Im happy with how it turned out though.A good end to the holidays and one more thing off the list.

Doctorot,I have no reason to think it wont last.I have no idea how comfortable itll be .For sure not as much as the matress that came on the original bike but time will tell.
Lacher,I looked into the hotwire idea but evreything I read seemed to point to the electric knife as the best method.The hotwire seemed more for polystyrene rather than foam though I am curious.I think that if it does work it would be cleaner than the knife,which is quite brutal.
