it is amazing how much money can get tied up in these old bikes sometimes.
even for us do it yourself kinda guys.

i would love to see the aluminum bodywork, but not more than i would like to see you get it running and riding and charging it's own battery  :cheer:

have you priced out the aluminum tank yet?

Yeah the tank would be about $800. I was looking at it from the stand point that paint is going to be about $1200. The tank is $800, the fender $120, and I would assume a tail would be around $200. this puts it at only about $100 more than paint minus powdercoating clear. So that was one reason I was considering it. Will just stick with paint and move on....

So I added my spacers and bolted the rotors on. Took an outside to outside rotor measurement of 6.125" vs. my ZRX which is 5.625" so I need to take a total of .500" out of the spacers, so .250" out of each. I found the back side of the spacers could lose .125" each and still have the recess deep enough to account the hub flange. This means I need to take another .125" each off the mounting face of the spacers. Need to make sure I don't take too much as it will thin out the joining material between the hub centering ring and the spacer itself.

So what wheel hubs did you end up using? I looked and looked and couldn't find it in your posts. I saw that they were far from bolt on but I'm still curious. By the way the wheels look awesome.

So the following hubs were used:

Front: 77-83 Harley Davidson Dual Disk Narrow Glide (FXR & FXH?) - I bored out the bearing pockets to 47mm to press in 47 x 25 x 12 sealed ball bearings and cut a new inner spacer to fit the 25mm front axle from a ZRX1100/1200. .250" spacers were made to get the disk spacing proper. The rotor spacers will need to be notched to fit the speedo drive collar. A custom made axle spacers.

Rear: 2000 + Wide Glide Aluminum "Spool" Hub - Dual Disk - Bearings swapped from a 52 x 25.4x12 to a 52x20x12 and new inner spacer made. HIGHLY modified 2007 & Earlier Harley Davidson Touring cush drive or IDS (Isolation Drive System) made to work with a ZRX1200 rear sprocket. A custom aluminum rear rotor adapter made along with axle spacers.

Thanks, I am pretty happy with how they are turning out. Still more work to do on them, but getting closer. Also still have to put my custom Excel wheel badges on them....

This isn't from today, but with my cast wheels I had fitted.

So the whole idea of rebuilding the calipers on the ZRX and KZ projects are finally getting to me. Although I don't necessarily agree with every 48 months especially with a 2 year fluid change interval, I am going to rebuild both bikes fully besides their yearly cleaning. This got me thinking since I was splitting the calipers, I should powdercoat the caliper bodies. What color do you guys think?

Emerald Green? Gold? Black? Almost Chrome? Feedback appreciated!
