So I only had Sunday this weeken to work on the bike. I started by turning the highly modified HD cush drive a little more. I had to get about .436" out of it to get the chain alignment correct for the bike. I ended up taking just a bit more than that. got it turned to an overall width of .877" Will post up more pics as the wheels progress to installed....

Cush basket that needed to be trimmed down along with the center hub fingers and the cushion blocks.

Will need to turn a press on centricity ring for the sprocket and center hub. Picking up my material today.

Now I need to figure out what to do visually about it? Powdercoat it to match the hub? PC the basket and polish the hub? IDK.....

the bare aluminum seems to disappear behind the sprocket pretty well .

Leon,

I think you are right. I think I am going to PC the basket gold and polish the hub/ring that the pocket mounts to. I can also polish the rear brake rotor adapter I have to turn.

NakedFun, if you don't care maybe with some help from 531bb I'd like to compose a parts list on this build page of yours for converting a kz into an old school ZRX. I'll wait for your approval to build a build sheet on your page and I'll fine tune this specific thread so one doesn't have to search all over the build for specific parts. And if you don't want me to just say so. I've sure enjoyed watching you build and am gearing up to do the same/similar to this old 78 1000 I picked up.

2001-2005 components

Swingarm 250.00
Set of shocks 200.00-300.00
Offset sprocket 50.00
Forks ???
Triple trees upper and lower 200.00
Brakes front/rear used 200.00
Wheels/tires 500.00

These prices and list are composed from what I've found on fleabay.

Lets not forget there is going to be money involved in machine work to make all the newer parts jive with our old dinosaurs.

I'll keep adding to the list as necessary.

Jason,

No problem. If you need any other information, let me know. There are quite a few custom parts so I don't know how far you are planning on going with the list. BTW I will have a complete ZRX1100 swing assembly and wheel in the near future......

Cory I see that you used zrx1200 parts on your KZ. Is the zrx 1100 swingarm the same as the 1200 ?

Cory could I run the stock KZ bars on the newer tree ?

The only difference between the 1200 and 1100 is the shape of the tubing used and the rear wheel alignment/width. The 1100 uses a different rear wheel that is 5" wide vs. 5.5" for the 1200. The swing arm on the 1200 has a slight offset to the right built in to accommodate the wider wheel and keep chain alignment. As far as the bars, yep the ZRX top triple uses a standard 7/8" bar mount.

Thanks for the reply Cory. I like the looks of the stock KZ bars vs the clip ons. I think the clip ons are the separately attached to each fork tube yeah ? Plus fat old men like myself don't want to be hunched over riding all day, lol.

I'm thinking I'll save for the zrx 1200 parts , I like the fatter tire :)

Are you going to use stock ZRX wheels? The reason I ask is if you use ZX11 wheels, they have the wider rear rim where you can run a 180 like the ZRX1200 on the 1100 swing arm. The ZX11 front wheel falls into place on the ZRX front forks too.

Yeah I hear you on the clip ons vs bars. For this bike, I wanted an aggressive riding position so I chose the clip ons but have the ability to go to bars easily. Get Leon to make you a rear swing shaft I designed as it makes putting the rear swinger on much easier.

I've been talking to Leon and he said he'd make the parts and alter the parts for me.

Leon can take care of you! I didn't put together a drawing for the bushing to press in the ZRX lower triple to allow the KZ stem to mate, but I am sure Leon can figure that out with the just the parts in hand. Make sure to get his frame brace kit while your at it. Is he going to make you upper shock mounts as well?
