Z800 Cafe Fighter Chopper thing GEOMETRY SPECS

I hear you dude but I've heard the flipside just as often about slide carbs, rattly, jerky, temperamental and old etc etc.

The engine builder and the carb supplier both said that if set up correctly the CVs should be fine with pods.
I know nothing about dialling in carbs of either type other than basic fuel / air tweaks but I defer to their experience.

I'm not saying you're wrong as you obnviously know your onions but I had to come down on one side - and I chose rideability -

I could still go back to an airbox or go for some slide carbs if it all goes pear shaped.

I will be the first guy to say that I am not the best tuner in the land- I farmed as much of that out as I could in my old shop- but I have to say, if i was wanting a carb to tune easy with pods and stay in tune it would be the CV carbs. They were more forgiving once you got them right IMHO.

Regarding the use of pods on CV carbs. If you haven't read the test in the link below you may find it interesting. Pay special attention to the last 3 paragraphs on the last page. Ed

Good info, thanks! I had the "cheese grater" box on my Z1, maybe I will stick with it LOL

i gave up trying to sort 34 CVs off a GPZ750 on my 750E (wanted mo powa', you know... ) and installed a rack of VM26SS (actually 27mm bores) with stock airbox and filter.

couldnt been happier

agree that CRs are not the best idling, they are after all race carbs but VMs 26, 28 are so easy to work on

I have those same carbs on my Z1 with the cheese grater air cleaner

Test fitted carbs - not as bad looking as I'd thought.

Another tweak to Muffler position - this looks good for me. Just need to go see a Yoshimura R77 in the flesh and make sure its not too huge then get it ordered and sent to ExhaustCraft along with drawings so they can make the down pipes and link pipe.

The muffler support bracket will probably need a tweak too.




Then its really just the loom - everything else is minor and I can see an MOT mid-late July tops which means lots of riding in August!

The bike is looking fantastic. It's nice work for sure. I'm not sold on the seat matching the build though.

Awesome bike and work. I've just bought a Z650 with a rear monoshock conversion and zxr400 front end. I was wondering what levers/perches you are using as they look perfect. I'm uk based would you possibly know of a place to get them in the UK?
