I wouldn't coat them. Let them turn blue from use, that looks way better.

Also the design looks almost like the Vance Hines/Kerker units......methinks you might have been able to save some money going with those....but what's done is done.

The Vance & Hines / Kerker units look pretty different? This was based on the Harris 4-into-1 which is only available in mild steel - this is a full Stainless set up and about £50 more than a new set of any of the new systems mentioned. Its way lighter than the Harris - which I had on my old 650.

I'll have to d bit more photoshop before I make a decision but they'll stay for now until I do a proper fit and see what's what.

How much ground clearance do you have with the rear wheel on the ground and you sitting on the bike?

it wasn't made on the bike. But its a handmade Stainless replica of a Harris with a slightly tweaked silencer position so I wouldn't say it's a real custom system.

NOS Kerker / V&H or Harris are all around £400+.

Regarding ground clearance - no idea. Need to bolt on properly and then sit on the this. I've got way smaller wheels than the original bike but a fair amount of drop on the yokes. I've also got stanchion extenders hidden inside the forks for another 30mm of extension.

That exhaust sets the bike up beautifully. My opinion only.... I prefer the steel look, it bookends nicely with the carbs and they both frame that sharp looking black motor really well. I think a lot of the detail on the motor disappears in the photochop version where the exhaust is black. By the way, that paint you chose (I think it was a Citroen colour?) is really dynamic, I love it :woohoo:

This is one Great build inspiring , I personally like the bare stainless look . I think the exhaust is to hidden painted black . congrats on the build . Can you post a vid when its running I'd like to hear what the exhaust sounds like. Thanks

Sounds like an even split on the Black V Stainless.

Flat Black would look too dull.

Raw Stainless looks more tough and hardcore. Built from the earth with bare hands type of deal.

Black Chrome is prettier and maybe more trick.

I basically like the metallic finish but don't want it standing out so much so maybe Black Chrome is the best balance?

All the coating I have seen never stand up in the long term, they all eventually peel, fade, or allow subsurface corrsoion to occur.

I say polish the hell out of them and let them season....

I'm in the bare stainless camp. It develops a range of colors as it ages due to the heat. Looks right to me.

Yeah I know the 'heat rainbow' looks cool and kind of racer.

A tough one.

I could chrome it - then if it sucks or starts to break up I can always strip it and brush it back up. Its not too pricey to chrome it.

Think I'll stay stainless for now and live with it on the mean streets of West London. Can always plate it later.
