Here you go! Slide groove cutter made.

A couple of bits of alloy bar for the guide and mandrel.
and an old steel bar end weight from the scrap bin for the cutter head.

Cutter pressed on to the mandrel and a slot in the side of the cutter allows it to pass past the plastic guide for the throttle slide.

Guide slots in after the cutter to keep everything square.

Ready for action

Yes! just when you think you've got it sussed there's always something that trys to catch you out

Had a bit of a headscratcher this morning when trying the slides and finding that they still didn't fully close

It took a couple of minutes for the lightbulb to come on and i realised that the underside of the slide was sitting on the outer raised portions of the carb bore either side of the slide.
I quickly cobbled together a heath robinson device using a piloted counter bore to reduce their height and was soon back in business.

Will have no such mucking about resetting the height of the jet needle as it is the spring loaded type so it's just a matter of replacing the thick spacer above the clip with an appropriate thinner one

A bit of jiggery pokery to open up the internal fuel galleries for increased flow and it'll soon be rebuild time.

Made a start on the exhaust while waiting for some carb parts.
Started by whittling the collars that will sit in the head out of some stainless plate .
These are a very snug fit and won't need any gasket just a token smear of high temp silicone to seal.

[img

Four short lengths of exhaust pipe were cut and some unknown stainless flanges i had lurking about were bored out to suit the pipe
[img

Put them all together with some flared sleeves welded midway for the flanges to push against
[img

And i have a set of spigots ready for some slip on downpipes.
[img

Next job was to construct the 4-2-1 collector .
A couple of reclaimed r1 and a zx9r exhaust systems donated their organs to the cause.

[img

[img

Now to conjure something out of this lot to link everything together. ;)
