Ok Got it sorted. I had pulled the red lead off the coil harness by accident. Do not ask how it was even running on 1 and 2 like that. Hahhaa. Full spark full power. I have new boots and plugs coming anyway. Can't hurt. I may have the bits for a test ride this weekend. Critical pieces clutch cable, Front master cylinder, and clutch perch. I cannot find the right fork dust covers anywhere. A single one ebay for 36 $ sheesh. The 1st has some limited parts. May use dirt bike covers. I couldnt find even an allballs flat dust seal in 42'mm. R

So I have a really nice condition rear rack that came on the 1000ST. After assembly it is clear to me that rack will not allow any seat to fully open when the rack is installed. Are they all like that or is this the wrong rack? I am a fan of a rack for bungie and packing purposes. but I really don;t want to be inconvenienced without seat access unless the rack is physically removed. BTW I think it looks good with the hard bags alone. R

Pic of the rack on the bike? I have a top box for my tools and spare helmet. Been thinking on a fuel cell in there too. I like the looks with just the bags too.

I'll get some better ones later. I like the rack and it has the backrest too, although my wife is not too interested in riding these days...bikes. R

Mine came off a Honda 350. Universal fit. I had to make a few mods to make it fit. Yours could be moved back a little. The sissy bar is movable?

The pad piece is fully adjustable. Rack is fixed to stock mount. The side bar on the right side blocks the seat. R

I had to move the mount where it fits the grab bar flange. You could do that and add an extension to where it mounts to the shocks. A good welder could do it without it showing. B)

I was.thinking some Wii k realse hardware at the grab mounts and u cut the brackets that attache to the.shock would at least make it easier. Only a two 17mm bolts to loosen. R

I had one like that back in the 70's but it was adjustable for the rack to slip back for seat open.
Easy fix. You can do in about 30 mins is to cut thru the tube about 3-5 inches from shock mount. Then slip a piece of steel tube inside. Tube needs to be almost full length of outer mount tube. Drill a hole on either side of cut about 1" back & tap it for a twist knob.
You can then unscrew knob on rack & slide rack back to open seat.
On mine. The shorter mount tube was simply bolted to secure inner tube to shock mount part.
Wow. Way harder to explain but hope u get the idea.
The inner tube had little flat spots for tighten the twist knob into.

I see what you are saying, the backrest is not the problem, it's the rack mount itself. The side rail blocks opening the seat., but your idea give me ideas now. I still think a U or C cut on the bracket that goes to the shock and quick release hardware at the grab rail is the way to go for removing it quickly with just a 17mm wrench. R

Well, Dennis Kirk is located in MN so I got my plug caps and plugs in one day. Holy shit what a different. Instant start and throttle response. I had a bit of smoke, whitish but it stopped after warm up. I assume running it with out quality spark in a cpl cylinders got burned off. Replaced the grips and put the headlight on. Still waiting on turn signal grommets and a clutch cable. Will get a ride in this week. Looks like I will need a new tach seal. Although I can't really tell if it is from the lubing of the cable or not as I haven't run it around yet. It was a single drop of oil. So we'll see on that. I bought some hardware to modify and get the rack to quick release for seat access but I bought 6x1.0mm stuff and it needs to be bigger 8x1.25mm to fit the bracket best. Also have billet cam plug that is weeping a smidge. Should have used sealant with the viton strip. Getting excited. R
