Not much done on it this week except I got the exhaust hung. You can see the latest shot of it here .

I've been spending the last week just trying to figure out in my head where my power issue is.

AND I'm so Going to get myself in so much trouble with this . My brother is living with us right now due to a divorce and bankruptcy. He would pay for it and everything else but it would be in my name and I'd get to do the work and ride it a bit. If I/he get it I'll start a new thread

I bought a built 70's CB 750 for a friend/brother in 83. Never again. It was bored to 900cc, carbs, cams,4/1, etc. I was doing pretty well so i paid the $700 so he could get to work. Not only did he not go to work, he kept sponging off me and would ride away if I got on him about it. It was so bad, I'd have to pay his gas if we were going on a ride. I told my friend Miller I wanted to sell it but not tell him. One of his jerk friends came over and offered him $400 for the bike when I was at work. We almost went to blows that night. The next day he takes off and didn't come back. Later that night a car drives up my drive way and the people tell me he was in an accident. Turns out this guy for no apparent reason just stepped off the bike at 45 MPH. The bike went end over end into the desert. He was in the hospital barking about sewing me because he didn't have a licence and the bike was defective. I brought him home and he made the most out of the situation. I got tired of his free loading and sold the bike to Miller for parts. We then started a parade of bikes almost every day coming to my place to party with beer and such but he was not allowed to be a part of it. He was told his exhaust was on this bike, the cams and big bore kit was in Miller's brother's bike, the Del Orto carbs were on Millers and so on. That did it. The guy was gone. He hung around the Pop a Top barking about how I ripped him off for his bike until no one would listen. He finally left the valley for good. I still had to deal with jerks asking if I would buy them a bike and I was the joke of the town for a while.
Bottom line is, if they don't have to cough up the money for it, they will never respect it or you.
I suspect that's how these "Bobbers" come about. They get the bike cheap, so they hack them up. If they had to pay what they are really worth, they wouldn't do it. $4200 for a POS Bobber?

Just the opposite for me. He'd pay for the bike, parts, insurance, etc. It would only have to be in my name due to his bankruptcy. He's been ahead on his part off the rent as much as 3 months, mows my lawn, helps out as much as his schedule allows.

If it weren't for him I wouldn't have my bike. I'm driving his car to work when I can't ride. He drives an owner operated airport shuttle at night working mad hours, he actually wrote off more than his reported income last year on maintenance and airport fees. He's swimming in cash from tips and needs something to spend it on.

We've both been missing the BMWs I had to sell 15 yrs ago and he'd like to get back on a bike too.

I put the GPz back together and it sounds real nice, I broke #1 plug cap so looks like I'll be getting another set of wires. It's running really strong right now but I did find that #3 carb boot is leaking on the carb side even after tightening the clamp as hard as possible. I checked the timing and it's dead on. I think I'll still end up ordering a dyna 2-2 ignition just to be safe. I ran it around the block and it just wants to fly. It's hotter than hell today and it didn't stumble once.

I am getting some popping on decelerating and down shift. I'll adjust the carbs tomorrow, if that doesn't help i guess I'll re-jet which will give me a chance to see why that carb boot isn't seating.

Took her for a spin, rode it as hard as I dared. it just wants to get somewhere in a hurry.

It sounds great.

This seems to be the end of this "project", I've actually gone further than intended at this point. I'll start a new thread when I start on the phase II silliness.

That's an awesome bike! I wish mine was that nice. I definitely would do my best to keep it original.

Me too. I have always loved these since I saw my first one. Unfortunately, it was in the parking lot at college and I had to park my borrowed moped next to it (starving student). Here is my revenge :P :

I'd try to tuck the tailpipe in a bit higher and more angled, also that rear hanger isn't up to the job. Getting there though.
