P.S. To anyone I'm looking for a front fairing that will match the bimota kit.

Didn't know they made this.. but it's so sexy.

Yeah they were always ahead of their time when it came to chassis work,they were the 1st builder I ever saw use the engine as stressed member of frame back in late 70s early 80s B)

What about the Yamaha TR-1s? It's one of the reasons why I'm building one, that and its fun to have a v-twin that inst a Harley.

I was referring to the inline 4s,all those other motor styles don't count! :woohoo:

25.9cm outside to outside exactly. What was yours? Also the R1 pivot axle seems a lot wider than the the kz pivot whole, but I haven't pulled the KZ one yet. Did you have to modify the axle? Does it look the same as the one in my pic?

25.9cm=10.19685 inches.

most kz 1000 frames are in the 9 1/4 (23.495cm)to 9 5/16 (23.652cm) area.

so unless you are planning to do some major frame mods you may want to look for a swingarm off of a r6 or zx636 the 600's seem to be closer to our old kz's width.

have you looked at the airtech fairings ?

Ah shit. Well I am committed now. I already bought the R1 wheels. I will cut the swingarm if I have to, to make it fit. I will look at it this weekend to get a better idea. I will also post more measurements tonight. I actually had a good idea on modifying the swingarm previously but figured I had enough on my plate. I guess now I can explore it.

More pics of the swingarm. You had me scared utill I measured. Looks like if I shave 1/4" of each side of the pivot area it will fit. I hope with removing that much that there will be enough inside metal to bore the bearing area out further to hold the bearings.


I roughly measured my kz and it's looking like 9.3" width. Because the swingarm indents right after the pivot its looks like the rest of the swingarm will clear unless someone seems something I don't.

looks like it will fit.sorry to worry you :whistle:
dont forget some kinda dust cap :P .
i only had to bore one side deeper.
i found that there was a wide bearing on one side and a narrow bearing on the other side.
so by switching to two narrow bearings it makes things a lil easier.

When you say dust cap, like a washer that is closes he bearings in? Or hat cap that is on the axle in my pictures a few posts above with the fender?

Great idea about the different bearing sizes. I will check that tonight. I will see if I can get away with machining only one side. But won't that screw up the wheel alignment or chain alignment? Did you have to ream the frame to fit the r6 axel?

the side with the wide bearing was already deep enough to slide the narrow bearing in,so i only had to bore one bearing hole deeper.
i machined the same amount from each side,to narrow it to fit the frame.
i machine the bushings to adapt the kz pivot bolt to the r6 center bushing with an integrated dust cap.

similar to a top hat.
