Ya I think I'm going to square them off a bit make it more race looking than cruiser.

What I had done with I swapped a newer Gsxr600 front end into my 900 was countersink the stem into the lower triple about an 1/8" or so. That allowed me to make the stem "longer". It might be worth a shot...

Ya I did the measurements and I have two choices.

- Counter sink the R1 stem 1/4" up the in the lower tree which will allow the top kz seat normally while being able to use the lock nuts. I would also need to reduce the lower bearing area OD of the stem to match the lower kz bearing ID. I would then weld the stem in the bottom if possible.

- Swap out KZ stem and use a bushing byboring and cutting the R1 stem. (Leon's trick).

P.S. Still waiting on the rear wheel to come in which is holding up my swingarm modding.

Got the steering stem out! After getting the weld fully removed I just put a socket on it and whap, whap! It came out. :)

Also worked on the cooling fins. I wanted to make them more normal and less cruiser looking while retaining as much metal as I could. This is the before.

This is the after. Although it looks like a simple change it took over 4 hours using all kinds of tools and lots of filing because after any grinding or hard filing you have to get rid of the stacked/blobbed metal on both the top and bottom of the fins. Then I had to match up both side so they were even. It ended up being a lot of hand work.

Haha!

Ya never sat with me well either, right up there with gold... it still blows my mind its 24k gold and I have to paint on top of it.

I can square the fins even more if you guys think it would look better but I would lose a lot more material in doing so which defeats the goal of the fins somewhat.
