I recommend using 2 cans on the exhaust, I used one can on my header only and it rusted through within a week...

Those pipes get hot up towards the head. Unless it ceramic coated or something trick the paint will not hold on long, the megaphone may last but the downtubes will not. Plummens one year plan will make perfect since

One trick some use is to spray some high temp paint down inside the header pipes. Won't go too far obviously, but said to help keep temp down. Also should help keep pipe from blueing on chrome pipes if you spray temp paint down the header pipes. Put a good layer of paint in there...best to put on a few thin coats then empty the can all at once though.

I got the primer. I'd rather not do it every yr. if possible.

Go to Tractor Supply and get some Valspar Woodstove Paint. I just used it on my chrome Kerker and on the top end of my 550 project. Smooth, tough finish with just the right amount of sheen. I've seen it recommended on this sight before.

ooooh! aaaah! This is 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of paint. All VHT. It's still a bit wet in the pic, hence the shiny spots.

FYI- I shot the battery box with Rustoleum hi heat flat black just because I had it. I did not like the look, too chalky, almost whitish on reflections. It also marked up easily with the slightest touch. Glad I didn't use it on the pipe.
I fixed the battery box with a coat of clear.
