Nice score! Like Greg said, someone did some work to that engine. Those Manley cam end plugs are old school. Head is plain aluminum, Was reworked, block and case are black. I'd lay a bet out that there are different pistons? Either higher comp. or a next overbore?
And a set of drop in cams to go along with the smooth bores.
I'd take that cam cover off "yesterday!" just to see whats in there :woohoo:

The smoothbores were not stock on this bike, correct? I enjoy rebuilding carbs and have never done smoothbores.

Right and hell they are worth just under half of what you paid too so I'm thinkin you did good too.

1978 KZ650 b-2
700cc Wiseco kit 10 to 1.
1980 KZ750 cam, ape springs, stock clutch/ Barnett springs.
Vance and Hines Header w/ comp baffle and Ape pods, Dyna S and green coils, copper wires.
29MM smooth bores W/ 17.5 pilots, 0-6s and 117.5 main
16/42 gearing X ring chain and alum rear JT sprocket.

I think you did great!! I would not be surprise if you find a big bore kit in it and or non stock cams.

I will pull the carbs and valve cover for a look. Just an FYI, my knowledge is rather limited on this bike.

I did a little more research in regards to obtaining a title, it sure seems like it may be very difficult. But that is ok, I bought it knowing that and actually picked it up for less than the ending bid that you see in the listing.

I really appreciate all the information you guys are providing.

I think you did alright on that, it depends what you plan to do with it, if you just want to do some work on it and make it into a really nice bike including the various modifications you already have you have a good basis to start from. If you want a 100% original bike then it's cheaper to buy one someone else has done all the work on already. I paid $1500 for my KZ1000A2, but I;d decided it wasn't ever going to be completely stock, but to make it into the bike I would like to have had back in the day if there'd been the internet and I'd known where to get all the parts etc. I probably have another $2000 in to it, but about $1,000 of left over parts to sell. Personally I'd rather have what I've got than a totally stock bike that would have cost me a lot more, not that I don't like a stock bike, but when you have one you are somewhat stuck with keeping it that way, like I am to a great extent with my KZ650B1, buying one with some desirable mods and the basic mechanicals intact, means you can go in whatever direction you choose.

I agree. I could have brought back to stock including a used frame. I decided to have all the goodies I ever wanted and RIDE THE PISS OUT OF IT. :woohoo:
