KZ900: Value of this bike was created by VMASS
No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI need a project bike and this one is up for auction close to me. It's always nice to not have to add shipping costs to the equation.

I am new to the KZ scene and would like some opinions on this bike specifically.

1) What do you consider a fair market value for this bike in it's current condition?

2) What would this bike be worth restored close to original condition including correct paint?

3) Do you see anything that stands out as this not being a good candidate to restore?

Thanks!

The 1st thing you do with any no-title bike from ANY seller is have the #'s checked to verify it isn't hot. Any local cop can do that. Kiinda depends on what this seller's 'reserve' is. 'Buyer Beware' on ebay!...However many good deals ARE out there to be had. Best of luck...........................................Mike

If you just want to clean it up as a rider it may be a worthwhile project, but I suspect that in order to put the bike back to original condition you will spend more than the bike will end up being worth. Replicating the original paint job isn't inexpensive. Neither are stock exhaust systems, good chrome fenders, seats, shocks, brake rotors, handlebars, side covers, turn signal, etc. Also, you may find the engine is in sad condition, and that could cost a bundle to correct. I do have a question out to the seller regarding legal ownership and the transfer of the bike. I suspect the answer I get will not be satisfactory and will probably move this bike to the bottom of my list.

Was there a 77 KZ900 in the USA? Not sure what the frame/vin number is supposed to look like,
but that one appears crooked to me --- downloaded the pic, enlarged & rotated for a better view.
Be sure to find out what's required to title the bike. In some states it might be a big pain & past due registration fees may be owed.

I'm suspect of the small pics and no title. Could be a 77 or a clone. Restored I don't think it would fetch more than $5000. I have $3500 in my bike not including the extras and I had the bike already. I wouldn't go more than $2500

All of the above. If it is hard to get a title in our state, you can go the Vermont route and get a registration (not a title) and plates for $44.00 registration fee and 6% tax on the bill of sale price (min 6% of $600.00). That will give you a registration and plates (for testing during final phase of build). Then you can use the registration to get a title in your state once you are ready for it. I would pay $1500.00 tops.If you decide to restore to old school mods era correct condition (not to original factory), it will cost you, give or take, about $3000.00. The side cover s will cost you about $200 to $250 for the pair. Keep the Kerker and have a quality but inexpensive non-factory paint put on. Fun bike to have which will still turn heads and still look like what a lot of owners did to them back in the day. Going this route makes more sense to me. A restoration to factory specs would probably cost about $6000.00. Figure a replica exhaust is $1500.00, and $700.00 for paint alone. Granted you can sell the current 4-1 for around $300.00 if it is a Kerker that is in good shape. Everything I quoted above assumes the engine is sound and very little hast to be put into it. If you did have to rebuild , figure about $1500.00 if you do the work yourself. If I had to make an uneducated guess, I would say a factory close restored KZ900 can go for around $6000 - $8000. Not sure if the fact that it is a 77 lowers the value or increases the value since it was a part year production run and there are not as many as 76's. Personally, I would prefere a 76. Good luck.

Most bikes in that category end up being parts bikes...as long as actual ownership claims don't come back to haunt you. I've seen more than one bike like that sold by a disgruntled family member and ended up in court! :( ,,,NOT GOOD! Buyer beware, especially on Ebay!................................Mike

That bike is a good project and probably runs like a raped ape. Smoothbores , electronic ign, I'd bet blue coils. With the dual disc drilled rotors, oil cooler, frame bracing bike might have some motor work cams etc. I'd bet on motor work.
Lot's of potential there, if it was near me i'd try to nab it up.

I don't think the stamp is crooked, it's the weld below it on the added bracing
