Congratulations! Have you ever owned a bike with pods? If not, keep in mind that if they get soaked, the bike is going to not run good for awhile (first 1/2 hr), until they dry out. Nothing to panic about. In the pictures you posted already, it looks like if you polish the forks, cases and valve cover ends, the bike will really come alive. Paint looks real nice on it. You have a nice bike there to take to bike night. You will have a lot of interested people coming up and telling you of the one they had or their Dad or Uncle had, back-in-the-day. Enjoy!

Ok..... Time for a full rundown and a list of items I am going to need your guys help with.
Just under 9000 miles- seems correct from what title has on it. Guy told me he did the following:
Electronic ignition - Dyna
Set timing
Valves adjusted
Rebuilt carbs
New Vance and Hines 4-1
New tires
New handle bar switches
New headlight
New brakes front and rear
After actually getting into her, I think he may have put a new writing harness on her. It's brand new!!!
She seems mechanically sound with no 2nd gear issues. Carb 4 is leaking out the overflow, but that is an easy fix. After sitting the weekend in my clean garage, she is bleeding from somewhere on the sprocket side between the stator and generator. Hoping that will be an easy fix.
I have come up with a long list and a short list of items I am going to need. I'm not going to restore her to original, but all the parts I take off, are going into a Rubbermaid tub just in case I choose to do so in the future. The only thing I really want to change are cosmetic items like the fuel tank, and the handle bars. Changing to a California style bar for a sportier look. And want a z1 standard tank and seat. I like the way the standard tanks look..... Super sleek.
So, here is what I need your guys help in getting. Not asking for freebies, I have a PayPal account, and will send money that way, or through the mail. Just let me know what is e easiest for you.
Need:
-Copy of the factory service manual and Ltd supplement
-Dent free z1 standard tank - paint means nothing
-Standard flat seat
-Seat and neck lock
-Stock air box, or something better than pods
-Stock grips- love the way they look and feel
-Battery stay strap
If you are able to help, or know anyone you can send me to, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
I will post pics as I progress.
Thank you for all of your help.

If it is leaking when it's on the side stand, then it is most likely the grommet at where the three stator wires come out. Most people end up having to replace this grommet. Very easy to do, but does require splicing and soldering the wires. I used heat shrink tubing as well. Just do a search for this fix on the site. You'll find many tips.

Assuming it does turn out to be the grommet and not the gasket. Here is a couple of links. You can try sealing it like JD did or you can replace it (Z1Enterprises carries it). I would also polish the stator cover since you will have it off. Some 1000 grit sand papper, one cutting and one polishing buffing compounds, polishing wheel on a drill or a bench polishing wheel would do the trick. That is a whole other topic on best way to do it though. You see, one thing leads to another, LOL.

Nice bike! Good luck with it!
I would HIGHLY recommend installing the stock airbox as your #1 priority. After restoring my fathers Z1 with pods, the bike ran good but seemed a bit sluggish. I decided to try the stock airbox and HOLY F, did it ever wake that bike up.
Keep an eye out for stock, Kawasaki mirrors, the aftermarket mirrors vibrate like mad. There's a piece of foam in the Kaw mirrors that keep them from vibrating at speed. There's a DIY somewhere on making your own foam, I forget what site.
