Not cam timing. just need to dial it in. Put 200 miles on it and the plugs are clean. I thought it would be more "buzzy" and it is a little with the increase of power and all. It's all there and not affected by the high altitude like it was. What I thought would be a three day job turned out to be a week and three days. It was worth it.

A few questions Steve, regarding this, etc ...
#1 What's compression per cylinder?
#2 Did you lap the valves this time when you had the head off?
Carbs:
#3 Float level first?
#4 Do you match the idle mixture screws first or slide height first with respect to idle speed and vacuum levels?
#5 (In contrast with the FSM, I can never seem get this carb balance anywhere close to good with an idle speed of less then 2000rpm.) However, do you pre-set set your slides with the .030" dia, wire gauge or drill bit drop method or ?
#6 Final adjustment with idle mixture screws only (and what rpm), before getting the idle down to, say, 900rpm-1200rpm?
I, like others I'm sure, do not have the Merc tube vacuum gauges. I have that wiggle ass, clock needle gauge set with a bleed valve on each to smooth it... which don't really work worth damn.

1. Haven't tested compression yet
2. Valves were done two years ago. I did try my "Tipping" tool on the exhaust valves. Looks like I gained 1 size shim. Didn't want chance taking too much.
3. Was planning on taking the carbs off and set the levels. WINDY AS HELL. I decided to do it another day.
4. Idle mixture screws set at best idle,
5. Idle has to be a little high so it won't die when adjusting the slides. Fine adjustment when they don't change after blipping the throttle.
6. I adjust the idle screws then raise the RPM's and listen for a miss then dial it out.
I have to clean my carb styx.

Yesterday was a bad day. Not only was it windy and there was junk in my gauges making them hard to read but there was no gas in the truck for my remote tank I use while syncing the carbs. I managed to take the mercury out of them and clean it, I also broke one of the tubes to boot. I got the carb sync close and after I fix my gauges, I'll go through the carbs tomorrow. Supposed to be calm then.

Changing from a 15 tooth countershaft sprocket to my 16 tooth. The bike hits redline too fast and it Tach's too high at 70. It should give me longer gearing in first and second with minimal power loss.

Got my gauges working again. Now I can go through the carbs and fine tune them.
