Wish I was closer, I'd stop by and insist we do it.... I bet we'd get it done in a long day-evening.....
Did I understand you are missing a new set of rings for the 1015 bores anyhow or?
By the way, I ran on old 650cc Bonneville for almost a whole summer at around 85psi per cylinder and I didn't even know it or notice there was really anything wrong.... until it started using too much oil.
I rebuilt the top end in the Fall and ran it hard a few weeks later. WHoa...
It felt like +30% horsepower and torque boost.
But amazingly, I was happy with it 24 hours before that rebuild so.... go figure.
And don't be so concerned with ring gaps unless they are really crazy large.... like .040"-.060"!!
Of course if they are large at the top and tight at the bottom, then you have really worn sleeves.
But I have not seen that very much at all with decently maintained Z1-KZ1000 motors.
In a pinch I also put used rings back in my old KZ900LTD and with a quick blast with a ball hone, they all sealed up well with good compression.
Confession:
I owned it for only a few months after that but sold it to good friend who put thousands of miles on it by merely following my casual recommendations to change the oil and filter every 2000-2500 miles.

It'd be nice to have the company, but I'm use to doing things on my own. I appreciate the thought though and it's encouraging Hell, I put in my new tranny two years ago and only had a extra set of hands to pull the motor and put it back in. This time it will be headless so I can manage the block by myself. I'll be installing a gate in the pan so if it takes a little longer it won't matter. I'll even clean up my exhaust too.
No paying projects this month and it will be getting hot soon so now's the time to do it.

While getting ready for the teardown I picked up some hinges for my oil pan gate. I like this idea the best.
I'm behind schedule a little but hope to start on it Monday or Tuesday. That is unless a paying job comes up. While the engine is out, I plan on putting in some gussets I couldn't get to with it in the frame.
We'll see how it goes.:whistle:

I have to wonder if the gate will open to far as is and not reliable close on hard acceleration :S
