A couple of quick passes with coarse and fine. Not much was warranted here as the seats and valves all had pretty good markings. After the lapping they were perfect to the picture in the FSM. New guide seals installed as well. I suppose my clearances will be off a bit. They were all square in the middle before tear down. Will check when back together. Will be hitting the oil passages with cleaner and then compressed air. Whenever my remaining parts get here, assembly begins.

Well first casualty. That damn ball bearing walked off. I see on parts lists it's a 3/8" ball? I assume any hardened ball will work? What says the braintrust? Not really interested in crawling on the shop floor unless it's some special golden ball

Not one to sweep with, but that is a good idea too. I crawled around in the nearest area, but the damn thing could be 100ft away b now. I checked the shaft too, clutch rod goes right through, no ball. Pretty sure it popped out while spittling. Gonna look at the video as well. Any 3/8" ball will do? R

$0.51 at my local machine shop. They also will fix my buggered up ignition cover bolt hole for $65/hour. Easier to repair while its apart.

Pay close attention to the oil restrictors between the block and head. Actually, I think those were supposedly improved to a new style on later motors. You may want to look into getting the new style. I can't recall if there is a danger of installing them upside down or not, but I seem to recall some sort of discussion about them.
Here is a discussion regarding the 650/75- motors.

I thought I recall the KZ550 restrictors changed at some point to give more oil pressure on the crank.
Hopefully Brendan can weigh in on it. I can't seem to find any links. Either way, make sure they are in there and facing the correct direction.

Thanks Lou,
I have indeed become familiar with the orifices in the bottom case. There are three. Those two shiny ones on the ends and one in the center that is smaller and black. I actually had one of them fall out when splitting and I had to research where it goes. The middle black one is very strange- a threaded allen jet type thin, but it looks right to the part diagram and would appear to be a crank spalsher no other connection. I have some parts coming next week and then can begin reassembly. Did some polishing too.
