All kidding aside, you're idea was what I was planning, but by the time I started to sketch out what would be left once trimmed down, it made sense to try this.

i like your idea because it doesn't involve a separate piece for the stop.

I also needed to clean the inside of the cases prior to reassembly. I did my usual hot pressure wash and EASY OFF oven cleaner. This time though something went wrong and turned the cases dark grey on the inside. So now I am having to clean and polish the insides of the cases and will probable soda blast the hard to reach areas. I don't know if the darkening would be a problem to leave, but oh well.... Top case is almost done.
Then I tried 2-stage powder coating prior to doing my carbs. Ignore the texture as there was an issue.... I want to see if it matches my paint tomorrow when I get a sneak peak from the painter. If it doesn't, will need to try something else....
Speaking of carbs......the work begins. Need to get the two center fuel bowls chromed. They came with 120 mains and 15 pilots. so I need to pick up some additional jets. Things look good and there is a lot of good parts in them including the rubber shaft seals. Also has the knurled A/F screws for external adjustment. Thinking about getting some different Mikuni needles and try my luck instead of DJ or FP kit.
So next is soda blasting the carbs.......That is it for now......

One down side to moving to the "Low Country" is the lack of proper services.....
Rant over....

Thanks Doc for that. I understand the chemistry, it is just I have never had that happen before when using it? The outside of the cases didn't do that and brake calipers didn't, etc.... I have used it on a number of aluminum, un coated brake calipers in the past prior to rebuild and paint. Just odd..... Anyway, thanks again.

Under hard acceleration (especially modified engines) the oil runs quickly to the back of the engine causing the oil light to illuminate and starves the engine of precious lube. The gate closes under acceleration preventing starvationkaw-a-holic wrote: What is the advantage of the gate?

Unless the pump has crap through it they should last forever without deteriorating too much, my Z1R standard used to surge oil under hard acceleration, when my motor was in current form is was really bad so I stuck a hinge in the sump.swest wrote: It use to happen all the time on my bike. Now I think it was a weak oil pump. Still want one though.

Luckily no (visible) damage occurred (usually to the far end crankshaft bearing, after many/lots miles my brother's Z900 had this problem ) . The cam bearings seem to work with little or no oil (try that on the new heads that run cams).
