Had a lotta help on this project, Stoppee, 341, the "Wizard". A fella that does the Baja 1000 on an XR suggested using a dirt bike rear brake to reduce weight.
Genious..those dam dirt bikers..
So we ordered a brand new CR450R rear brake caliper, and master cylinder.
The master cylinder has its own resevoir for fluid, so its a cleaner set-up, no tube and plastic bucket hanging out there.
The stuff looks like jewelry. I had the rotor machined to the diameter, and thickness of the stock CR rotor, and presto..about a third the wieght!!
Can u tell me what the bolt spaceing distance is ,on the mounting bolts for the master cyl?(center to center, )

Do you know what the RAL number for the silver you had it powder coated is? It looks really nice!
cherrymetal,
I called Advanced Powder Coating today, they looked up the RAL number.... Prepare to copy:
Cardinal (brand)
T 358-GR539 (the silver)
Cardinal
CL01 (the clear topcoat)
hope that does you some good. I was hesitant to do silver, but they showed me a grill guard they were doing for a Pick-up truck, it looks so nice. Not loud or flashy, but very nice.

Thought about that, but remebered racers experimenting with heat sheilds in the early 80's, so thinking the carbs would be better sheilded from the heat this way.
What do you think?

I guess the carbs are going to pick up heat as the plate heats up anyways, maybe more as it gets hot?
Its up to u but since u like the hole look, i cant see any big issue.
Chances are good that u will want bigger carbs latter anyways.

I git on it and make motor noises, I imagine it running down the corkscrew at Laguna, Eddie Lawson, Freddie Spencer pressuring me for the big mistake so they can take the lead....then my wife opens the door to the garage, with that "you are pitiful" look all over her face.
Oh yea I've ridden it..
Actually I started it a few times, then had to take it all apart again, so i could get the frame powder coated.

Makes me think though, I had an ELR with aftermarket Mikuni 33mm smoothbores, that thing was a pig in traffic, I am wonderring if the rails, and all the heat had something to do with it.
Smoothbores, with the rails are made for racing, bike is always moving, so air runs through.
It would be real interesting to know exactly why they use an aluminum Die Cast plate in fron of the carbs, instead of rails. After all the rails would be cheaper to manufacture.
I'm gonna drill some 7/8" holes through the front.
Thanks for the input!!
