Hey Mark1122 I went with the longer swingarm to accept a bigger tire. I think I'm making pretty good power and wanted a bigger tire that would stick to the ground, and I love the look of stretched bikes. As far as the stabilizer I put it on there just cause I like a little more firm steering than the bike had. If I hit a bump or something the handlebars would become to easy and if the front end came up while shifting into the next gear it just didn't feel right to me. So the stabilizer fixed this for me.
My next project I'm going to do more of a streefighter theme with front end and rear off a new style bike like a gsxr or a zx whatever is more of a direct bolt on.
Mike
have some more pics with the bike all cleaned up will post them tonight....
Also does anyone have an extra fender for my bike? I want to cut it a bit to make the fit a little better with the radius of the tire just don't want to ruin the one I have cause it's very clean....

I'm going through the same thing right now. I just got a 18 in with a 5 in rim. I'm going to have Les build me a swingarm for it. It will only be used at the drags but it should work out.

I've got a manual ordered, but it won't be here for a couple more days. I just got a 78 KZ1000 A2 with 5,200 original miles on it!!! It is in amazing condition.
Anyways, this is my first bike, I just rebuilt the carbs. But there are 3 different types of lines coming off the carbs. What are they?
First type of lines is a pair of black lines, they look like they come from the tank valve (they are bent and cut to go right to the valve) They connect to the carbs via a small T between 1-2 and 3-4.
FUEL LINES. CONNECT THEM TO THE TANK VALVE.
Second type of lines are 4 lines thay come off each carb and seem like vaccuum lines. They connect to the runners going into the engine??
DO THEY COME OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE FLOAT BOWLS? IF SO, THEY ARE OVERFLOW LINES. ROUTE THEM THROUGH THE GROMMET ON THE FRAME BY THE AIRBOX AND DOWN PAST THE SWINGARM.
Last type, I have no idea what they are. There are 3 fittings coming off the middle area of the carb. No clue what they are.
PROBABLY VENT LINES FOR THE FLOATBOWLS. SHOULD GO UP PAST THE AIRCLEANER AND NEXT TO THE BATTERY UNDER THE SEAT. MY BIKE ONLY HAS 2 OF THESE, THOUGH. NOT SURE WHY YOU WOULD HAVE 3. CAN YOU POST PICS?
I am new to carbs. Please give some advice or pictures. Thanks.

I found an 82 GS1100 swing arm for cheaper, I think i will go that route. Here is the link to the one on Ebay:

The swing arm is 25" from front to rear and 9.5" across at the axle. It has dual shock mounts and the price seems to me to be very good.
Would these dimentions greatly affect the handling on the bike as to make it unstreetable?
I am going to use inverted front forks from a GSXR or ZX when the time come, lowering it about 1.5" up front.

Biquetoast, you're my hero.
I had no idea where to find that parts diagram. I had seen it at the Kaw dealer and was attempting to explain it to my hubby via drawings in blue sharpie.... LOL! And Thanx for the extra info, Very Very Much! The plan is to get the parts (#30 AND #31) this weekend or just after the holiday. Yippee,I'll get to ride again soon! It's been killing me....

Ok, so I finally went and looked at your bike's parts diagram on buykawasaki.com . Now I understand. Your bike doesn't have "bushings", it has the needle bearings (or it *had* bearings
) you discovered. Your '78 C2 was the first year with bearings, and the C1 had bushings. You also have a grease nipple which helps to explain why it's well-lubed.
A great place to get replacement bearings is z1enterprises.com.
Note: check the swingarm sleeve VERY closely. On mine, the lack of lube from the P.O. had detroyed the sleeve, and new bearings alone (without a replacement sleeve) would have just destroyed the bearings in short order again...
Note the parts in the picture below in little boxes, #30 and #31. Those are your bearings and sleeve, to replace parts #3 and #6 from the '77 C1....

Well, like I said, it's still kinda new to me. I'm still learning all the little things that require more upkeep than what they tell you in the motorcycle training course.
Not to mention a bike that was put thru the ringer well b4 i got it. We took the wheel off this evening and the bushings are okay... the bearings tho.... ooooo bad. They are needle bearings and on the left side of the bike, the bearing's tin ring is split and open by about 3/4" and most of the rollers are broken, sitting sideways, or missing all together. Judging by the damage, it appears that when I would shift or brake, I was moving the swing arm bolt alot further than just within a worn bearing. I took a couple of pics but they didn't turn out, will try again tomorrow when there's light. It seems to have plenty of grease but it looks really "mucky" so i'm sure it contaminated at this point. SO that's all getting redone this weekend hopefully. As much as it sucks to not get to ride, I enjoy getting to work on it. So thanks everybody again! Hopefully, I won't have anymore "little things" creep in and bite me, and then I can give it a good overhaul in the off season.

Well, the bushings are actually designed to wear. I kinda was suprised about 1/2" though. They must be pretty worn, like with no grease for a couple years......So would that make it more of an arm problem or still bushing or both?
