To tell you the truth, I think it would be much easier (and possibly safer) to lop off the current brackets on the swinger and find a good aluminum welder in your area to set you up for an eye mount.
I would look much cleaner and OEM to boot.

Im currently staring at my GS1100 swinger in the garage wondering if I should do that before mounting it up, it would give a whole lot more options for suspension.

I've been stumped on how to run piggyback shocks on my Z1 with a GS1100 swingarm without spending a ton of $$$$$$$.

I want to do something like this bike.

I have a idea of a set of machined shackles that would fix this problem. I made a simple drawing of my idea as it came to me.
(The "orange" part in the drawing is thicker and contoured to the eye on the swingarm).
The two pieces come together and sandwich the factory GS1100 swingarm eye.

This is with the back piece of the shackle in place.

Can anyone here make these?

What shocks are those and does anyone know of a gas charged shocks that won't break the bank?
I have gs1100 shocks on my mockup but they are too short. Eye to clevis is 13.5

It's just going to be too low. I want to install, maybe a set of 70's LTD wheels and front forks.
Trying to make a low budget version of this bike.

I'm finding a lot of GSX1100 F swingarms on the UK ebay site and they are 230mm at the pivot and 650mm overall length. Would that be the same as a GS1100 ?? I'm not sure if the UK models are called different to the USA models, same as we have Z over here, you have KZ

Hey guys, here's what I have done so far.

76 KZ900
2003 gsxr 750 rear swingarm/wheel/shock/etc
2003 gsxr 750 front suspension/triple tree/tire/etc

My problem is the forks hit the tank when I turn like in parking lot manuvers. This is with the stock tank. I have an old tank from my 79 1000 Shaft Drive, and it is better, but the tank doesn't really fit the frame very well. I can make it work, but I am running out of time to get this baby fixed up. WHat tank do you guys use? It's like my triple tree needs to angle/push the forks forward more.

The only other issue I have is the clip on's from the GSXR are REALLY far forward. I have to lean forward AND my elbows are locked. It's not terrible, but not the most comfortable either. I would like something where I don't have to lean forward quite as much. So that means the handlebars/clip-on's I'm looking for need to come up and back a little.

Thanks for any help guys!!!

adding mags and dual disk from a kz750ltd/kz700
had to shave down the width of the swingarm of the kz750ltd about 1-2mm on each side to fit.

fitting the TM38's to this baby:))) many modifications will be going into these carbs due to the fact that they are specifically built for a different vehicle.

Does it really matter the angle of the shock? How did you determine the height of the top mount? I am assuming this is a way to adjust the ride height while building your bike. Mount the shock higher in the frame to lower the ride height or does the bottom mount determine this to some extent? What linkage is best to use? Do you just find the cheapest setup you can and build around it or what? I know some buy a whole bike and take pieces from it but what if you can't find a whole bike to rob from and have to buy piece by piece...are the parts able to mix and match...say a zx12 swingarm using a gsxr1000 linkage? Been looking around E-Bay and its hard to find a complete front end with brakes, wheels, forks etc. as well as finding a complete rear setup with swingarm. wheel, brakes, linkage, etc. to use on a build. As you can tell, I'm lost on this so any information and insight you want to share would be great.

Sorry about the multiple posts...this site is giving me lots of problems logging on, cutting me off and now this...

You should be able to get all the parts from one model....maybe not one bike but at least all the same model. Avoid mixing things if at all possible.

I got forks and wheels with brakes from a guy in Canada, swing arm and shock off ebay. The worst part was bidding on f'n foot pegs. You would not believe what a pain in the ass that was

Look at how the shock mounts on the model you get that stuff from. You'll see if there's angle to it or relatively straight. This may help. It's from when I was doing my LTD 1979 LTD Streetfighter
