gsxr full suspension swap on 76 kz900 was created by high toned son of a bitch

Hey guys, here's what I have done so far.

76 KZ900
2003 gsxr 750 rear swingarm/wheel/shock/etc
2003 gsxr 750 front suspension/triple tree/tire/etc

My problem is the forks hit the tank when I turn like in parking lot manuvers. This is with the stock tank. I have an old tank from my 79 1000 Shaft Drive, and it is better, but the tank doesn't really fit the frame very well. I can make it work, but I am running out of time to get this baby fixed up. WHat tank do you guys use? It's like my triple tree needs to angle/push the forks forward more.

The only other issue I have is the clip on's from the GSXR are REALLY far forward. I have to lean forward AND my elbows are locked. It's not terrible, but not the most comfortable either. I would like something where I don't have to lean forward quite as much. So that means the handlebars/clip-on's I'm looking for need to come up and back a little.

Thanks for any help guys!!!

adding mags and dual disk from a kz750ltd/kz700
had to shave down the width of the swingarm of the kz750ltd about 1-2mm on each side to fit.

fitting the TM38's to this baby:))) many modifications will be going into these carbs due to the fact that they are specifically built for a different vehicle.

almost forgot after barber i immediately developed a mold i was satisfied with for my rear faring. ZX6 influenced.

Does it really matter the angle of the shock? How did you determine the height of the top mount? I am assuming this is a way to adjust the ride height while building your bike. Mount the shock higher in the frame to lower the ride height or does the bottom mount determine this to some extent? What linkage is best to use? Do you just find the cheapest setup you can and build around it or what? Been looking around E-Bay and its hard to find a complete front end with brakes, wheels, forks etc. as well as finding a complete rear setup with swingarm. wheel, brakes, linkage, etc. to use on a build. As you can tell, I'm lost on this so any information and insight you want to share would be great.

Sorry about the multiple posts...this site is giving me lots of problems logging on, cutting me off and now this...

You should be able to get all the parts from one model....maybe not one bike but at least all the same model. Avoid mixing things if at all possible.

I got forks and wheels with brakes from a guy in Canada, swing arm and shock off ebay. The worst part was bidding on f'n foot pegs. You would not believe what a pain in the ass that was

Look at how the shock mounts on the model you get that stuff from. You'll see if there's angle to it or relatively straight. This may help. It's from when I was doing my LTD 1979 LTD Streetfighter

you are looking for the 1980 thru 1983 Suzuki GS1100E/ES swing arms ,they are about 1 1/2 inch longer than a stock z/kz arm. share the same pivot bolt o.d. . couple of shims, one on each side of the pivot tube, add shock mounts or use suzuki shock. lots of people have done this swap......... :cheer: :woohoo:

I believe the swingarm I'm talking about is off about a 1980-82 maybe later GS1100. Lots of guys on here have used one. Fairly simple add-on. Now...most suzuki arms work on a KZ...even off some of the newer mono-shock arms. Main concern is the front pivot tube length. Suzuki arms are fairly close to right size. I think you need to add a small spacer on each side to make it work and depending on model arm, weld on a couple shock mounts. I tried to find a picture of one but couldn't but I know someone on here has a picture they could download, if they would. Can one of you guys who have one on your bike post a picture so he can see what it looks like?

Is it a specific model suzuki gs1100 ? I've looked on both the UK and USA ebay sites and cannot find any with a twin shock setup. Only ones on the UK site are for shaft drive and on the USA site are monoshock, $

Good Advice Leon,

I recall my last KZ (Eddie Lawson replica) I am thinking it was 125 mains and 20 pilots. Problem is that bike had smoothbores 33mm, these are 29's, anyway I will start from there, and pull the carbs off about a dozen times before it is right on.

Hate jetting !!

A gs1100 swingarm is about 1 1/2" longer and goes on with only a small amount of work. It's an aluminum arm and you will need to use GS shocks with clevis on bottom or cut off stock mounts and weld on new ones for a KZ. There are some on here that have done this swap so I'll let them say what needed to be done to mount it up beings I haven't done it personally.
