Definitely gonna have to look into those. Do you remember off hand how far apart the rods are?swest wrote: The Volvo one has openings that look cool, plus will help keep her back from sweating.

Something narrow like that would make fabricating a bracket somewhat easier. IIRC the narrower aftermarket backrest are about 8 1/4" wide at the base. Others wider. So making a bracket for a something that's 6" or less wide would be easier. Going to look into this as a viable option.swest wrote: I don't know about the Volvo ones but the one I got they were about 6" apart.

Yeah, I won't order one off ebay. I'll do the same as you and go hand pick one.swest wrote: I just took a stroll down to Ecology Auto Wrecking and came home with what I wanted. New would have been better but $5 was worth experimenting with.

Might do that if I cant find a nice on in a salvage yard. Wonder if I could incorporate the locks too. Be nice to be able to raise/lower/remove it at will. ???swest wrote: If you like it you can buy a brand new one. At that rate you can pick up a few. I like choices.

I'm thinking I could weld two pcs of tubing to the bracket and affix those inside of them. Depends on how they're originally mounted inside the seat and how long they are.

Hmmm, that means I'd have to have some kind of a flange on top of the tubing that's the same diameter as the lock to screw it to. Plus find a way to keep the bottom of it stationary so it wouldn't wobble around inside the tubing. More rigid considering your head doesn't apply as much pressure leaning against it as your back would.swest wrote: The locks for the head rest is screwed to the top of the seat.

Sounds like it might be more trouble than it's worth. I'll figure out another way or go back to making a bracket for a more traditional backrest.
