I have been looking into what people are calling spray chrome which isn't new but seems to be pretty versitile

if anyone has done any of it I would like to hear from you. I have spent the last couple days researching it and I think I can get set up for small scale learning (I hear it takes a while to master) if i understand what i have read the chrome effect comes from clearing silver gilding and the trick is to tint the clear correctly and the tinning of the object you are going to chrome.

while it is only as sturdy as your clear it has a ton of uses in our world.

any comments of feedback will be appreciated especially before i lay down serious money to start this journey

i hadn't read that article. but Alsa seems to be the leader. I have been reading a forum post from a guy who has tested both the original mirror gilding supplies and alsa's prodicts and a few others.

it seems that alsa has perfected the process with mixing the tinning agent and the wetting agent into one product that gives a clearer chrome than traditional gilding the actual difference between silver plated look and chrome is in the clearcoat and Alsa has a premix version.

The guy uses a combination since the silver nitrate is almost the same the gilding supplies are much less expensive its the proprietary components that step it up a notch compared to the other Spray chrome companies.

the cool part is add a little candy color in the clear and you have that color in chrome

I was just sitting here thinking how cool would a Chrome stock Z1 paint scheme be with the black chrome and gold and chrome purpel be? it would look almost surreal but i think thats a ways away since everything I have read says it takes some time to master

just a bit of update on my research
some of you may know from my other posts my job has been rediculously non existant this year been with the company 5 years every couple years get a month or so layoff or a transfer to another facility except this year I turned down the tranfer to enjoy finishing my bike well...June is the month when things pick up

to make a long story short thins picked up tuesday the day i accepted a transfer which created a conflict with my transfer(my account demands me personally)the account i agreed to take tuesday was superseeded by my account requesting my services my boss says no problem work both of em. after 3 days juggling both accounts decided to let someonelse have the new account since my account wont work with anyone else but me.

after 50 hours in 4 days not including 8 hours round trip drive time im back to my old account that has decided today they will only need me a few hours each week until september.

Back on Topic

I have decided to take a leap of faith I am gonna use what resources I have sell some stuff and start chroming the investment will mean no available bike cash so after I get my taillight done this weekend and ride my bike if it breaks it will have to sit.

I have been in contact with several venders and a few spray chrome guys who have already made all the mistakes to help guide me in what is a pretty steep learning curve if all works as its supposed to

Monday I have a buyer for some pretty sentimental things that will payoff our mobile home and get me the basic equipment and supplies for my new venture.

Wish me Luck been struggling for a couple months already hope i dont bury myself

this video is from one of they guys helping me get through the learning curve

The guy I Have neen getting advice from is doing an experiment with a header to see how well the silvering process works and withstands heat. ( by using high temp basecoat and clear ) I am pretty interestede to see how ell it holds up. the chome effect as far supperior to ceramic and powdercoat I'll keep you guys posted as he tests it hopefully I will start ordering supplies tomorrow for my training. (he also does real chroming so the comparrsons are accurate ont eh brilliance)
