Weird. I used your inter tube idea and the sides expand out with just slightly filling the tube.

wow!
is it a cheap bicycle innertube?
i would have thought the innertube would give and keep the tank from expanding :pinch: .
it does not sound like you are using too much pressure tho.

Old mountain bike tube. My tank expands just blowing air into the hole without sealing. Tell me more about redcoats.

Here you go...
damonq.com/Red-Kote.html
I ordered mine direct, and trust me when I tell you that 1 qt is MORE then enough.
Application is super easy, just make sure your tank is clean and dry and your in a well ventilated area.
Once question on the tube, how long is the tube that is being used. Only thing I can think of is if the tube is to short maybe not enough area for it to expand?

wow, your tank expands blowing air into it unsealed :pinch: .
i am betting your mountain bike tube is thicker than the three dollar wal-mart 20" bicycle tube i used.
but still if it expands just blowing air in  .
i have heard nothing but good things about the redcoat.
i hate tank sealers but if i had to use one, that would be my choice as well.

You guys are braver than I! I still can't bring myself to weld on a tank without having a radiator shop dip it first.

Just to show what I am using I made a video showing the setup and what is going on. I have removed the petcock mount and welded in some more metal since I have practically destroyed the original metal with all the heat from welding. The video shows more leaks than usual because I ground down some of the welds to make another pass after I weld in a new petcock bung.
les, you must really trust your radiator shop. I would rather blow myself up than let someone else do it. Was pretty scary the first arc I struck. Now I am numb to it.

Very cool... looks like you are doing the right stuff. You gonna try the MIG again? Using .023? Or brazing it again.. I did use Silver Solder when I patched the side of mine, worked pretty well.
I really want to add the new style cap, but worried I will have similar issues.

Thanks man, I was using .023 mig wire and 1/16 brazing rod. I've learned how to setup for a netural flame which i didn't know about before, so maybe that will help. I'll probably mig the bung in place and go back in with brazing to seal it. I cant wait to get this part done and move on to the goofy Idea I have of putting a WWII P51 or P40 Warhawk sharks mouth on it. What do you think?

Flying Tiger Kaw! Would you air brush that on? I went all black, but I would love to place a 'Wile E Coyote Super Genius' badge somewhere on the tank.
Kinda reminds me of my dog!
But I wouldn't want to take a chance of messing up my new paint, so I am trying to find it in rubber magnet form.
