Well, I finally got the tank clean enough ( no gas smell ) to weld on. I cut the return and petcock out of an old gpz1100 tank with a whole saw and started to weld them into my tank with my mig welder. What a pain the arse. Every time I think I have it sealed up I put soapy water on the welds and pressurize the tank. 2 or 3 pinhole leaks every time. So I grind the welds down a bit and re-weld. More pinhole leaks...I must have done this 10 times. Next time I braze or solder. Is there anything I can put on these welds to make sure they are sealed up?

Well I got ticked off at the mig welding and went old school on the thing. My first try at brazing. I think my grandfather would be proud. He used to braze everything.

Only looks like I did. Still has pinholes. Maybe I'm putting too much pressure to it when testing

dang it!

i have heard that the test pressure should be less than ten pounds.

Did your tank flex when you put pressure to it? I may be using too much heat? Trial and error till I get it.

You could always redcoat the tank. That will seal up any pin holes and might not be a bad idea just for extra security.

my tank never flexed while pressure testing it.

although i was using a innertube so it took the expansion,it would flex long before the tank would.
