After adding the new manual petcock, I was a little nervous putting fuel into the tank. It did drip a little, and I had to "loosen" the petcock a turn to make it seal properly. I did use some of that plumbers tape, so I'm not sure why it did that...either way, no leaks now. Started the bike up and warmed her up a bit....she has a very smooth idle at 1200 rpm, which I think is perfect. (1100-1300 rpm ideal if I remember correctly). I'm not 100% sure I wired my low fuel light correctly though. It is on and stays on with fuel in the tank (though I'm not sure how low it is at the moment). Any thoughts on that?

So...like I said...a surprise ending!

I decided to go with a black stripe instead of a white one. I think it looks WAY better! :woohoo:

BTW...I will post some better pics after putting the footpeg and shifter back on...which will be after fixing the engine case paint :)

EDIT: Oh yeah... I still need to reinstall and wire the tail light and get some foam for me tushie. LOL!

I had to sand the right side cover and respray because of a few rough spots

I decided to spray the other side of the rear footpeg mount for some reason....

Also, I had bought these little emblems a while back. I'm not sure if I like them or not. I dry-placed them on the finished left side cover a couple different ways to see what I though. I'm still not sure, but if anyone is following these thread, feel free to let me know your opinion :)

i dig the second placement of the emblems!

Thanks! I've painted this bike several times over the almost 3 years I've had it, and I like this the best. One day, when I have the extra money, I will have it professionally redone just like this. My problem now, is that when I get to the end of my '66 A1 project, I will most likely have it painted in the blue color scheme (it was blue or red), which was not the original color of my bike. Don't want two red ones...lol!

I was walking around the garage tonight to clear a few things out of the way so I could drain the oil on my '66 A1 to start that project. While sitting there looking at the freshly painted, and almost done 750, I just felt proud to own that bike! It finally has a look and feel that is fitting, and I'm so happy to be almost done tinkering with it. I will be finishing up the small stuff tomorrow, including pulling it out for a good cleaning, and will post some pics with my good camera to show you all how it turned out.

Good Job B) Paint and body work is an art not easily mastered. I feel it's probably safe to say that this won't be the last time you paint you bike :)

A tip to make things easier for next time: Paint your stripe color first, then tape off your stripe and paint the rest of the tank. It's much less masking and less chance of getting overspray on another part of the tank ;) Keep up the good work!

This will probably be the last time I paint this bike as I plan to have it professionally redone eventually (unless I get REALLY good at it), though I may be painting the '66 A1 when I get toward the end of that project...

Stripe first...makes sense now that I've tried it the other way. Thanks for the tip.

Ok...as promised, I have some better photos with my good camera. Keep in mind that I still need to get some seat foam, but it is otherwise ready to roll again! :woohoo:
