- One Test Is Worth A Thousand Expert Opinions!
OK, gotcha. A coat of resin goes down first, then the cloth which is then wetted out with mroe resin. If you put the cloth down on a dry mold, you will get bubbles. Granted, I got some pretty big bubbles in mine, but like I said, that was my poor technique. But if you do it right, brushing on a coat of resin first will yield a smoother, more void free finish than laying dry cloth in a dry mold. The kicker is I was more concerned about the bottom edge of the tank, and it turned out fairly decent  I have done many experiments leading up to this, what bit me here was poor technique and a change to resin I was not used to. I have only myself to blame here though.
Take your time and have fun, you have come to far, to hurry now. It is looking good!

just a thought , instesd of scrapping this attempt you could finish it up , complete the job and get a nice flame paint job done on it , the flames could lick over the bad bits of carbon and the tank would look stunning and im sure someone would buy it and you would regain the cost of the carbon , im totally impressed with your work and im glad i decieded to join the site , just a pity im across the pond or i would be knockin on your door with a few bits . kev

Could you fill the bubbles in with resin, and then as many might do, paint it in a way so that the good carbon bits show through? Or is it now a structural issue as far as safety is concerned?

Of course they are, like every other part on those bike, right? Thanks Leon
Not as much TDC time as I would like, I've been spending to much time in the garage or on this damn forum
The tank is not structurally compromised that I am aware of, the defects are all cosmetic. Unfortunately, there is more than one issue besides the blisters. There is the right rear corner I came up short on, and on the right side I got 2 stray strands of cloth caught on the face

I'm flattered that one of my humble experiments could be the reason you joined this site. Thank You.
