And another coat of primer on the repaired side cover. Still need to smooth out a few dimples from the repair.

So after the stripes cure tomorrow I'll wet sand them a bit and try a second coat. We'll see how it goes.

If it doesn't work out, I'll just wet sand them back down and spray more of the base color and give up on the stripes.

It looks like it's comming along just fine. Keep at it, it'll be fine, and a necessary learning step ;)

Amateur night continues....

Wet sanded the stripes and put down a second coat. Looks better, but I'm still concerned about the first coat adhering. We'll see what happens.

Also put the first coat of the Duplicolor Wheel Paint on the repaired side cover. Yes, I got impatient. Yes, there are still some small dimples. Oh well, it looks a hell of a lot better than it did, and I'll probably be the only one that notices...I miss riding already.

Pep Boys or Auto Zone carries 1500-2000 grit paper. That blue tabe it a little too sticky, I think the lime green tape might be better. More expensive, but better. Lowes carries it.

Thanks, I looked at a couple of Autozones and didn't find anything over 1000. I did see the green tape, but this blue has worked for me in the past, I just have to do a good job of cleaning the paint before spraying over the spots I laid the tape.

I might be getting ahead of myself, but this looked soooo damn nice when I peeled the tape off today I had to snap a couple of photos and post them. I don't think the metal flake comes through well on the camera, but it looks sick in person...

Yeah, the sparkle just isn't there in the photo. I'll have to take another one with a real camera.

I dropped the side cover I was still painting yesterday while it was wet so I had to wait for it to cure and then wet sand it back down and spray it again. I'm hoping to be able to do the first coat of clear tonight before bed, but if it's not ready, I'll wait and do it later this week. B)

Well...been out of town all week. Just got back this pm. Hoping to make some progress tomorrow. I need to get some more paint and I'm debating whether I should scrap and start over so I can fill in/repair the dents in the tank. They are starting to piss me off the more I see them.

Be very, very, very, very careful removing dents with air. I had a dent in my Z1 tank and I put the air to it and the tank spread out at the bottom by an inch and a half. :( It was a mofo getting it back because it would spring back out. I almost ruined a very expensive tank. If you do use air get some ratchet straps around it in at least three places and make them super tight. I still kick myself over that one :)

Good to know. I'm just letting them go for now, but will probably just fill them with body filler next time. Just seems easier to fix if I screw it up :P

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccccccceeeeeeeeeeeee....

Now pay attention DD... Let this fully cure a couple days, preferably 5 days... you will be tempted but leave it alone damn it...

Then wet sand with 1500-2000... Just to get the crappies & dust bunnies off it, smooth it out... Your not trying to remove paint at this point, just smooth surface particle clear for the clear coats....

Then hit it with your clear coats and let cure 24 hours!

Wet sand crappies, drips, sags whatever....

Then hand-rubbing compound to HIGH SHINE....

You think it looks killer now, trust me it will blow you away! :woohoo:

Looks real good young man.... Good job!
