I just used some masking tape and tin foil. Worked pretty good. Depending on what type of foam you use, you can glass right on the foam, and then use acetone after to dissolve any remaining foam. However, some resins don't react well with some types of foam, that's why I covered mine with tape and tin foil.

Hey thanks for the info Deacon I have another question how did that knee pad work out for the seat. I tried some foam the other night and it wasn't the stuff. Just wondering how that pad worked out for you or if you have changed it since then.thanks

That pad worked out good. Still using it, two seasons on it now. I want to replace it to fix the pan itself. If I do I'll still use that kind of foam if I can find it. I find it comfortable and it retains its shape.

Very inspiring, I am quite comfortable with fiberglass as I used to repair boats in the 90's, I think I will build a solo seat for my 1000, thanks!

 You may even get it for free that way, just so they can get you out of the store.

Thanks Cooper. I don't know for sure, but I'd say around $100 total cost.
