mark1122: I bought my Z1/KZ engine mounting kits so I don't know offhand what the bolt diameter (s) are/were. But I could go out into the garage and measure the bolt diameters used in the Kosman Engine Mount Kit that I have in a box if you want me to.

Does this require drilling the frame holes bigger?
How about that neck sheet metal area guys? anyone tackled this yet?

Yes you have to drill the holes in the frame out as well as the the holes in the engine. My sheet metal bracing is cracked from too many hard wheelie landings but from what Ive been told it's not an uncommon problem.

It's interesting that the GPz750 Turbo already has most of the bracing shown in the Klosman diagram, along with a larger backbone (upper frame tube). And it's noticeably heavier than the non turbo GPz750.
the added strengh and ability to actually put the power to the ground more than makes up for the few extra pounds .if you have to fight the chassis to get it to work for you you will never reach the full potential of what the bike and motor can do. all the fancy upside down forks and single shock swingarms in world will do you any good if youre frame cannot handle the loads put upon it ;)

Indeed, this is one of the problems I ran into with my Yamaha Seca Turbo: They used a stock Maxim 650 frame which may as well have been made out of slinkies. A buddy of mine had one just like mine and he learned the hard way to never try and follow a GSX-R 750 through a twisty canyon road!

So I'm starting a winter project. It's a GPZ Streetfighter. Here's a pic of the frame

It's an '82 GPZ 1100. Looks like it has some of the frame rigidity addressed by additional cross-members and dual front engine mounting brackets. Any recommendations for additional bracing? I'm thinking about a couple possibilities: a cross member and possibly diagonal brace behind the carbs near the rear engine mount; some gusseting in the corners of the 'rear triangle;' possibly removing the thin sheet metal at the head tube and gusseting with heavier guage cro-mo. Is any of that really necessary? I'll eventually be dropin' in a 1175 wiseco kit in with a hot street cam (not sure which one yet). Will be mounting a zepher 1100 swingarm, and a modern USD fork from a zx10. Curious to hear your thoughts.

Cheers,

Mav
