What is it? Z1 or a KZ?

Yeah but those lower fork legs and brackets/calipers might of been gotten illicitly(spell check) ,Till we see a vin number and serial numbers on the fork legs/caliper brackets/calipers and dust seals Im not too sure. :woohoo:

This whole thread is starting to worry me. I bought my bike new in April 1977 from a Kawasaki dealer, so of course I did not think it was stolen. However, I have never posted my bike's VIN on the internet, so now I'm thinking maybe it is stolen. :blink: Ed

You stole it from the dealership, but left a wad of cash (by mistake) on their counter, and they never came after you.

Ya ya you caught me. I guess since I just filed for historic tags the State Troopers will be by soon to pick up my bike. When I bought it the old man kept saying z1900. The confusion was that the bike has numbers 1976 KZ900-A4 (USA MFR frames) include Z1F-500001~510340. I asked him about it and posted a while back my concern as to what it was due to the various pre-1980 upgrades that I couldn't really find on any models.( Although I did read Euro models sported dual disk on the front.) Anyway... I know what I have know. Especially since the caliper kit I ordered(KZ900) wasn't for the calipers I have. I have z1900 forks and calipers I guess. The vin is a real low number and an H-1 H-2 friend of mine says that the first 50 off the production line are test models. So maybe I have left over z1 parts from the factory? It was manufactured in 75. So... it must be stolen.

The Z1 (1973, 1974, 1975) optional dealer installed dual front disc brake included another disc of equal thickness as the standard single disc.

European 1976 KZ900-A4 models had dual thinner front discs, while American models kept the single thicker front disc, with option of dealer installed thinner dual discs which reduced unsprung weight.

KZ900-B1 LTD dual discs were thinner than American KZ900-A4's thicker single front disc. But I'm uncertain whether the LTD dual discs were identical to the European KZ900-A4 dual front discs.

I could tell it was a KZ frame by the way the Z1 side covers leave the battery hanging out the bottom. I have Z1F500847 produced in 09/75. It has the correct forks etc. Looks like you have a KZ900 frame and maybe motor (depending on the engine number) and the rest is bitsa. Doesn't look like much hasn't been replaced on it. I doubt kawasaki would put z1forks on it. The headlight ears you have indicate they were likely swapped at one point. Regarding the brakes the calipers maybe Z1 but the mastercylinder isn't.
