Yeah Plummen, its fluxed core mig. I ran out of argon but I still wanted to put the jig together. I've never run flux core through my little mig. I can officially say that I don't like it and will get my bottle filled Monday. This crap splatters ALOT

The '08 Triumph swingarm measurements are as follows -
Pivot centerline to axle centerline = 19 13/16"
(compared to 19 5/8" as measured on stock swinger, still mounted on frame)
Triumph swingarm width at pivot = 11 3/16"
Swingarm axle width inside flange heads = 13 1/4"
Weight (as measured on my absolutely precise bathroom scale) = 34.5 lbs

After looking at that swingarm. Im wondering if that thing was used in the design of some of the agtermarket big tire single sided swingarms. Its giving me ideas.

That flux core does have it's place, to remind you how much you like using solid mig wire! Flux sounds like a drive by shooting while your welding.

Anyway, Adam, nice work there. I must say that you are forcing me to step up my game here.

jus1975 any idea who makes that second swingarm in your pictures? That is giving me an idea for testarossa's streetfighter 2.0. Me likee!

Those sure are nice looking custom arms jus1975; I'd hate to see what their fabricators charge for them :whistle:
And yeah Josh, that flux core is a back up, rough welding wire AT BEST. Maybe it has something to do with the fact I got it at HBF? But probably not! :laugh: No need to step up your game Testarossa, just finish your build like you planned. Like you said, there is always version 2.0! Besides, this is pretty basic stuff so far. I believe I'm going to go ahead and make a fixture to mount the frame sideways by the swingarm pivot and a place to bolt the fram jig to the floor. That way I can quantify the torsional flex of the frame before modification. If I'm really ambitious I could check the torsional stiffness after each mod to see how well it works :ohmy:
My offer still stands to any locals that would want to help with some frame testing.........?

I just about finished my frame jig base today. Got the holes drilled in the transverse supports and some 1/2" fine pitch bolts and jam nuts for the 4 corners. I also painted the jig base. I decided to use flat white for the paint so that I can make marks or notes with a sharpie on the jig, then paint over when I need to "clean the slate".

Just to show those following this thread the size difference between the stock swingarm pivot and the Triumph SSSA pivot: The stocker easily fits inside with plenty of room to spare!

One more thing I'd like to do during this build is to document the weight of parts that I take off and the those that I install to see what net loss (or gain? :blink: ) I will achieve. The SSSA weighed in at 34.5 lbs sans wheel and tire. The stocker with wheel and tire weighed in at 64.5 lbs. So as long as the Triumph wheel and tire are under 30 lbs, I'll have lost some weight!
Now the frame weighed in at 53.5 lbs, but I'll be removing less and adding more, so I don't expect to loose much weight here. Now I just need some paint remover and an argon refill.....

I dont know if you guys know this or not but I have a bike shop. I sell these arms. I specilize in drag and custom sport bikes. Although nobody locally has purchased one of these arms, Ive mostly just dropped shipped them straight from the manufacturer.
