Are you sure your carbs are clean ? Sounds like you pilot circuit might be clogged. Check out this thread.

This is usually a sign of a failing ignition coil, check the resistance after it's hot. As for your run away RPM issue, how sure are you about your float height being correct?

I am going to look at the pilot circuit again I think. I never sprayed carb cleaner directly, but did use an ultrasonic cleaner when I rebuilt the carbs and "assumed" it got everything nice and clean.
