self cancelling and distance circuit

Anyone had any experience of these. It's on a 82 Z750 P2 (Spectre)?

I have rebuilt entire bike and this is giving me problems. Trying to figure out a way of doing away with this circuit and installing a normal flasher relay

Funny, I want to do the opposite on my 82 GPz750. I have a compatible speedo and the box, I haven't had any reply to my thread.

I've tried to find the wiring diagram here but I don't think there is an example for a P2 ?
Wish I knew the (K)Z model codes better...
Can you attach a pic or a link of the wiring diagram in your manual?

I don't have the diagram for your bike, so I'm basing this on the 80 KZ1000D3 system. The self canceling system still uses a flasher relay. There's a distance sensor in-line with the speedo cable linked to a solenoid in the turn signal switch. It pulls the switch back to center after a set distance. What problem are you having? Your turn signals should still work just like a manual system even if the self-canceling components are bad.

Well if you need a specific switch set I can't do it. I'm going to have to use aftermarket switches.

JoHNY if you want to try another control box I have one. PM me your address and I'll send it to you.

Thanks guys, the indicator just stays on (no flashing) I have replaced the Self Cancelling unit, checked the round flasher unit and reconnected the sensor. Basically I have completely stripped the bike and it's all back together now and running fine.

Lights and horn work and the indicators come on but won't flash. The wiring seems in place so I'm stuck. What I'd like to do is bypass the self cancelling module completely but I'm not that hot at wiring.

Sure the flasher isn't defective?

Are you using LED bulbs in the blinkers? If so and they don't have their own resistors you need a LED compatible flasher. Otherwise have you tried changing around the wires? Sometimes they get switched or replacements work opposite the factory flashers.

The intension is to use LED flashers and I have resisters but at the mo to test the circuit I'm using the OEM flashers. The flasher unit is 100% fine. Afer looking at a normal flasher circuit there is juice going to the flasher unit but mine doesn't seem to have any.

I guess what I need is a circuit using the the original loom/harness and handlebar switch but bypassing the sensor and self cancelling module. Something like this.......

some flasher units you need to get polarity right -ve +ve... some are 2 terminal other 3 with a spare for a warning light.

major cause of dodgy winkers and rear lights is bad fame earths, ( that black/yellow -ve wire that is grounded to the frame and back to the battery -ve.)

think the flasher unit is grounding through the winker bulbs.
