1980 KZ1000 Shaft ignitor question

I have tried searching everywhere for an answer to this question and i think Im just search illiterate lol.
I have a 1980 Kz1000 shaft that has a bad ignitor and i really don't wanna order one used and have it go out in a short time again. So i was planning on making one with the GM HEI idea but i can't find anywhere that says if it will work or not. If anyone could help me out with this id appreciate it.

Or if anyone can tell me if this bike has a mechanical advance that would help too.

You need to get a manual. I have used used ignitors with no problem.

I really do need a manual. I was just hoping someone here could answer my question. I have to order a manual and Im impatient when it comes to my hobbies lol.

There seems to be only a few KZ1000 Shaft manuals on ebbaayy for the 1000-E ST... here are 2 of them... a couple of others were very pricy.

From the UK:
Kawasaki, KZ1000 Shaft, Service, Manual, 99924-1016-02

Note apparent typo in the item title - one of his pics shows the model application chart on the back cover. I always ask a seller for clarification whenever there's a discrepancy like that.

1980 z1000st has a mechanical advance retard unit.

no reason you could not make an igniter yourself.

So I've got this thing built but i haven't had a chance to test it yet. Im having some trouble in how to mount it to the bike.
Im thinking about mounting it on the inner fender under the seat with some round head bolts. I just don't want it to hit the metal seat pan and short out. I don't know if i can get a plastic box from radio shack to fit under the seat.
What do you guys think?

Well i got it in and i just mounted the whole thing under the battery box where the original was. I need to get a water proof box to cover it with so when i take it apart to add the box ill add pics.
