Tach... or no tach?

Curious, who runs a tach. Who doesn't. And why?

My bike currently has a tach ON it, but my cable is broken so it's not working. Debating just ditching it but wanted to see what everyones opinions are first. A early model 400 at the salvage yard has the speedo only mount that I could pull to clean thing up if I decide to ditch the tach.

Since this is my first bike I don't really know how badly I will wish I had it if I DON'T have it. Make sense?

So they're there, but neither work? I have my tach mounted as well. Just can't decide if I'd rather buy a cable for it, or pull it and try to clean up the look of the front section.

Virtually everyone runs a tach and speedometer. Some, who know their bikes rather well, skip the speedometer and run only a tach. Personally, I won't run any of my bikes without a tach.

i have a tach built into my pacemaker,it tells me when its time to shift.
with my 1327 its pretty simple to figure,6,000 rpms in 1st 3 gears averages out to about 6" between the ground and front wheel :woohoo:

I run just a tach on one bike, but no gauges on two others.

I wouldn't run without both. If you're the type to run the bike up to redline from time to time you won't know when you're crossing into the forbidden zone without a tach. If you're a sedate rider (yeah, right, who is?? ) who never approaches redline you don't need a tach. Ed

Electronic tach,J bike..When u install Dyna S,u unplug the igniter as the Dyna powers the coils. When u unplug the igniter,u lose the tach. I even installed a seperate tach pickup and it does not seem to help.Tach is still beaucoup bonkers.I dont drive by tach, but if u do,something to consider.Engine sound is quite enough to decide if u r overdoing things or not.Lol.bj
