i do it strictly for my own amusement, did it in front of a group of harleys one time at a shop.
later they told me when i finally let off the front brake and headed down the highway faster than anything they ever saw before the cloud of tire smoke kinda rolled into itself and followed me down the road, they were very impressed! B)

most 900s-1000s even with a pipe quit making power closer to 7000-7500,but will still rev past that point.
allthough i must admit banging a big kaw through the gears at 8500 at a stop sign is something i hope to never grow tired of! :woohoo:

Take a look at the chart. The '77 KZ650 makes peak HP (64) at 8500 RPM; at 9000 it's still around 62 HP which is more than it makes at 7700 and much more than at 7000. Your big bike may not like to rev because of those gigantic pistons and shims on top but we little guys are just getting started at 8000

im looking at a 77-78 kz1000 factory manual right now.
its shows torque leveling off around 7000 rpm, with hp dropping off at8000-8100.
i think theyre a little optimistic with the peak hp # at 8000-8100 on a kz1000 with stock exhuast/cams and itty bitty little ports though
it also shows 83hp which i call bs on!

i run my backhoe throught the gears at closer to 1700 rpms, damn thing wont spin the tires though with that heavy as boom on the back unless i park it against a wall!
i can spin all 4 tires in the mud if i hit the traction lock though, gotta love 4x4 in a 20,000 lb tractor!

They made those 900/1000's for a reason

They are faster out of the gate, guicker across the first 60ft, and reach there top speed at the same time the 650's reach thiers. I've had numerous eye-witness occasions of this with stock bikes at Cayuga.

Dont fool yourself  Having close to the 650's HP in torque, and almost 90 HP makes a little extra weight mean shit

The 650 will out corner the 1000's with a good rider, but in the strait line, a complete dumbass can make a 900/1000 take a 650.

I've blown away many a 650 on my CSR

I've ridden KZ1000s and my KZ650. I wasn't implying that the 650 is as quick/fast as the 1000. Even I know better than that (I'm dumb, but not that dumb  ). I was just pointing out that the two bikes develop max HP at different RPM. :)

Tach only in this case. Would like a Speedometer too but get buy knowing my speed with what gear and RPM. If I'm in 5th at +7K I'm looking for a ticket. Rev limiter on the Dyna 2000 set at 10.5K keeps me from getting into trouble. You get used to judging traffic speed your around and comparing gear selection and RPM. Gets you in the ball park.

Main thing I'm missing without the speedometer is an odometer. That would be really nice to have.
