I think this is where this belongs...

Bike is 81 KZ1000 CSR

New Dyna Coils + Dyna S, Timing is good, excellent spark.

Carbs are like new. Work fantastic, or so we think.

Compression is around 145 across all 4 hot.

This is what happens:
Fire up bike, starts good. Warms up quickly.
Runs great for 30 - 45 minutes or more... at all different speeds and throttles.
Either right after stopping for a few minutes, or just spontaneously, the bike starts to hesitate and missfire.
Starts out as a little hesitation, then just gets worse and worse till the bike is stalling if not revved constantly. Gets harder and harder to ride.

What I think is happening, is the regulator/rectifier is going/gone and letting the voltage get too high, thus overheating coils...

If it was a fuel delivery issue, i would think the hesitation would not be so severe? Full tank of gas, tries leaving filler open... clear fuel line has gas running...

Anyways, I only had a few minutes to checkafter stopping the demon, and the battery voltage was around 15.3 Volts.

+ if I choke while this is happening, it still missfires/stumbles.

Any thoughts?!?!

15.3 at the battery with the bike off?....if thats the case, i m gonna guess the reg is junk and the battery is getting fried and will soon be junk also.....even if the 15.3 is running,i would think thats too much and without a way to bleed it off, it will eventaully do the same thing.....fry the battery.....put 2 big ass foglites on it.....problem solved:laugh:

Sounds like an electrical gremlin to me think you may be on the right track with the rectifier,15 volts at the battery aint right you should know this judging by your posts.Sounds to me like a coil/rectifier/regulator problem.
Peace.GOOD LUCK

tek that sounds like a good call it may be overheating the coils enough they are spreading apart inside what are levels like in the battery also have you checked battery voltage as this is happening.

I hope I havnt fried my new coils... you think?!?

The battery is a sealed/glass matt, no maintenence type battery.

Hav'nt done the ride with voltmeter yet, but its bout time.

The bike did seem to have a real hard time re-starting after it stalled...
Could that be an effect of over-voltage? Toasing the battery???

Thanks all.

No resistors... Dyna 3ohm coils, Dyna Wires, B8ES Plugs.

those batteries are pretty tough do you have a load tester if you do that will put your mind at ease, i don't think the coils have fried if they have they probably wouldn't work bad coils usally run decent for a while until the heat up then the machine will shut down completly let it cool down for awhile( 10-20mins at least)and it may or may not start yours seems like its not doing that it just seems as if its losing spark energy. try tighting up your plug gap so the coil doesn't have to work so hard to jump the gap until you get a new regulator installed. some of the racing ignitions call for only .018" gap

Dont have load tester, but I can just grab new battery and reg/rect.

Just losing spark energy  You mean.. from over-heating?

The plug gap is currently .026 If the bike cools for a long period, it will fire up fine and repeat the same failure cycle.
