Right if you don’t get the polarity correct you bike will run backwards

I'm gonna try the mod. Just ordered the part, (from Latvia) ?. Mine is a 77-kz 1327cc with about 11 to 1 comp, and kick-start only. And my 65 yr old leg needs all the help it can get. Also, coils are Accel super coil kit from the 80's. Will that matter with this mod ? Thanks again.

I think not. Your just transferring the power connection of the coils to the battery , OEM is, battery, ignition, coil with the relay mod it becomes, battery, relay, coil. Shorter route new wires so closer to battery voltage. The ignition now controls the relay So now that becomes battery, ignition, relay, ground.

EDIT, the relay is turning 12v on and off. It doesn’t matter to the relay what is using that power. I did the same thing to get an added brake light to work. I used the rear brake light switch to energize the relay, that then turned 12v on and the added brake light glows without and back feed to the brake light out idiot light. Without the Relay the idiot light would glow dim

Done the mod yesterday and the bike started and ran the best since I bought it. It was bought as a non-runner and imported to UK with no history.

Now looking forward to taking it out for some proper rides.

Thanks for all the info.

Hey JR...
Planning to get a new fuse box also.
What size box did you get?
As how many fuses.

Hi wagonmaster69
Holds 4 fuses. My local small Kawasaki dealer can get anything that's in the Drag Specialties Fatbook.. The back was open so I glued a bit cut from a old mudflap in place to seal. There are probably newer and perhaps better options on the market since I did this

I thought I would check the voltage at my dyna 3ohm green coils and found 10.5 volts on both coils.
Checking back to the Y connector that splits off to each coil there is 12.2 volts if either one or two of the coils are unplugged from it.
I checked the resistance of these short wires and found 0.2 ohms, surely not enough to give nearly 2 volts drop.
Next step will be to disconnect the wire where it screws to the coil and check the voltage on the loose wire but they are a pain to get to.
So if as I suspect the loose wire connector reads 12.2 volts why does it drop to 10.5 volts when connected?

You cannot diagnose corrosion or any other resistance fault accurately with an ohm-meter (sounds crazy I know but refer to my "fault finding guide" for a detailed explanation of why and how to diagnose resistance faults with a voltmeter) You should only use an ohm-meter to measure resistance of components with a known value that you are checking for (like a 3.0 ohm coil)

3 ohm coils take a lot of power. Coupled with a Dyna S the power drop is dramatic. I have the relay system but it doesn't do anything to cure that problem. If I'm working on the electricals. I turn off the kill switch until I want to start the bike.

A little more investigation shows that if I disconnect my dyna s ignition power (which tees into the same source as the coils) then my coil voltage is over 12 volts.
As soon as the dyna s is powered up then it drops to 10.5 volts.
As the coils and dyna s tee off the same supply they must be in parallel so shouldnt the voltage be the same regardless of current draw?
