Little B, congrats on your successful troubleshooting! :woohoo:

Got any pics of where you mounted the Relay?

Best of success!

Lou was the one that helped me figure it out so I really can't take the credit. ;) But thanks anyway!

There is a picture of where I mounted it on the 2nd page of this thread about halfway down. The only difference is that there is now another wire coming out of it. :)

Little B, found the picture of your relay location... cool.

So, I had a long wait at my local Midas Muffler recently and I started to think... how to keep the HL off when the Ignition switch is moved from OFF to ON, to stay OFF while the Start button is pressed, to stay OFF while the Starter is cranking, to come ON only when the Start button is released (whether the bike is started or not at that point), there after to go OFF each time the Start button is pushed and to come back ON each time it is released.

Also, I thought it would be good if this could be done with the a commonly available and therefore inexpensive automotive relay. I was thinking of sticking with a relay that has an "87" and an "87a" contact because all the ones I've used for existing mods are that type (I needed one for the Latched Relay function anyways) and that would reduce the number of different components used which in turn could be a factor for troubleshooting and reducing the spares count.

Finally, it would use neither passive nor active components... so resistors or transistors.

Did I mention that this was a long wait?

What I came up with is below and this would fit into my existing mods:

For sure, there must be simpler designs if different relays are provisioned but that was one of my self-imposed restrictions. :P

I hope someone finds this useful. Best of success!

Ya know Bill, If you keep adding relays and wires and other electro stuff your gonna have to take out your battery to make room for all of it, then what??? :woohoo: :)

Cool idea. If I follow, you just want the headlight to wink out when the starter button is pressed? Why couldn't that be done with one relay? Or were K4, K5, and K6 for something else too?

On the drawing, why couldn't the NC connection of relay A power the headlight circuit?

EDIT: Oops, nevermind, I see you want it off while starting and until the starter button is let go, and then wink out in case it needs to be started again. I'll take another look...

The reason I stayed away from the latching circuit on the neutral-headlight-trigger was just because of the shear number of relays it takes. But I considered it for the same reasons you stated (spares counts, swapability, etc.). It's a tough call.

Did I neglect to mention a little detail...

... this circuit will only work with the electric starter... you can kick start until the cows come home but you're going no where.

Sure, a work-around can be thougth up... but that's for the next visit to Midas Muffler. :P

Best of success.

Good stuff there, Bill!

One question, though, and forgive me if you have already answered this previously in the thread, but could you provide us with a link to higher resolution versions of these great diagrams?

guitargeek, done. Check your email inbox.

I've never used anything like Photobucket. I'll have to try.

Keep us in the information loop if and when you use any of this... I'm always interested in the implementation.

Best of success.

Update 1/3:
Just created a Photobucket account. The full resolution jpg version off my diagrams are now under the following User Name:

- bill_wilcox100

If anyone is able to navigate to it successfully please post back. If anyone cannot let me know... you may not be alone. Thanks.

BTW, If anyone finds any booboo's in the diagrams just let me know.

Update 2/3:
Lets see if I can create a link...

Update 3/3:
