Recommendations on carb sync tool

Hello, I have a few carbureted engines in my garage. Some with 1, 2 or 4 cylinders. Although my local vintage bike shop is super nice, they also charge $160/hr. And most of my bikes are now in need of a carb sync (after rebuild or clean up). And so I'm looking at doing the carb sync on my own. I have seen that many of you came up with your own design, but I don't think I have the patience and skills to do that.

And so I'm looking for recommendations of what tool would work best.

Should I get one of these cheap chinese set of gauge off Amazon? Is the Motion Pro decent? Should I cough up a bit more cash for a Carbtune (seems well reviewed)?

I have the Morgan Carbtune and it works very well.  I cannot comment on the other products.

I think any bike carb synchronizer that uses dial gauges, that allows you to adjust needle fluctuations to ensure a steady, readable vacuum reading should do the trick.

I have a "cheap" 4-clock synchronous tester for two years now, and I'm very happy with it!  - (It works just as well in terms of display and sensitivity as my long-used, high-quality BOEHM 4-clock tester, which I had for 25 years...).. The pics shown while working on both Z1000 bikes.

Greetings, Joe

I've a "Motion Pro stick style" i've had for years. As well as the ole Mercury sticks, still have a glass tube NOS one down in the outbuilding. The Morgan Carbtune is a Nice one, never owned one Though. Sorry Kofla, those Analog individual gauges can be a bear and come with calibration issues. Some have removable lenses to set the needles but that's often only in a "certain" range of vacuum. Of course some gauges are Much better then others but Steer Clear of those Blue backplated Amazon units, they are crap. I have a set i will give you, they are just that bad. A kid gave them to me years ago and just threw them in a box.

So is it fair to say that the vacuum gauges would work fine as long as I can calibrate them individually and the quality is decent.
The mercury-based system might be more reliable but more expensive?

I struggled with the Motion Pro sync tool for years. Then a few years ago, I gave up on it and got a Carbtune. Couldn't be happier. It's plug and play.

The old mercury gauges worked great, just as long as you don't spill them and have a good place for storage.  Sadly, mercury gauges are no longer being sold in most countries.  I strongly recommend the Carbtune, if you can afford them.  They work just as good as mercury, but safer, and easy to store.

I have a Carbtune and it works well, much better than the dials. Recently came across this that I might try:  Digi Sync

I considered the digital tool, but I decided I did not want yet another battery-eating tool, especially one that I would use so infrequently.
It may be more accurate than the other options and if I was setting up race bikes, that would be a strong consideration.
